So it seems they sound like their speakers from The SHOW.

I'm wondering if maybe my set sounds better on my particular setup.

That being said, I really think these headphones sound pretty terrible at low volumes. If you're a low volume listener primarily... stay away. I still think these sound pretty good if you have a normal bias Stax amp around, but for $1k (w/ the KS amp) I can't recommend these at all.

The Koss ESP/950 is a much better value.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

MF, yep, i wish I had a normal bias amp to give them a go.  A lot of what I am hearing may just be a lack of control.  I need to either get a listen to them on a normal biased amp, which I don't have, or take the leap of faith that they will be OK at low volume on a pro-amp.  Heck, if there is enough air gap and they can run safely on pro-bias that may have a really big impact.

I spent a all of last week listening to the 950 at work.  They are not without their flaws, but at this moment I'd recommend them over the Kingsound as well.

STAX entry level 2170 is available for under $600 and would be hard to overlook.  Again, the Lambda sound, especially on the entry level is not going to be for everyone either.

I had held off posting over at HF on these because of some of the crap attitudes from a few vultures over there... but after Frank posted up some positive impressions I felt some balance was needed.

Some interesting observations on H-fi where Spritzer took the driver cups apart.

These might be held back from their full potential, begging for some extensive modding.

It makes some sense of the weirdness/ringing I was hearing.

I'm sending my headphones and amp to the states next week.  They have one stop to make then they will end up with Christian, after that I'm not sure.  I don't plan to keep them.

Marv, Any interest in trying to measure these things?
