Great pictures. Great tubes too. That's one big knob you've got!  :)p8

Thanks mate. Yeah, my knob's impressive. It allows me to stroke the volume to my exact sweet spot.

No, It's not standard. I tried to get Jeremy to make it so but it's a bit too expensive & requires some slight modification to the chassis risers to accommodate it properly. You can find it here..

Sorry Skyline. This should've been a multi-quote but your post came in as I was posting my reply to Ringingears.

I should have some impressions up by the end of this week.

I see. So your knob is bigger than everyone else's?  Not so fast, I'm going outfit mine with a steering wheel, FTW.

No, I've seen a few men with knobs like mine. I've even heard of a gold knob but I reckon that's like driving a Ferrari.

For the record, it isn't the length of the riser that matters, it is indeed the size of the knob.

So you've got that going for you.

OK, I'll stop now.

I've just finished listening to one of my all-time favourite albums, Wrecking Ball by Emmylou Harris. This is without a doubt the best I've ever heard it. It's an album that can often sound muddled & slurred on lesser equipment but I can hear every word now. The low end has real authority now & seems to dig a wee bit lower than I've heard previously. The highs are really nice & clear now too. Mids are as good as they always are on the 650's but with maybe a bit less warmth. That's no bad thing on this album.

Low gain, output caps by-passed & medium output R. Perfect.

Sol,

I'm using an ODAC. It's the one part of my rig that may change as I know some don't hold it in high regard. I've never heard any other DAC though and what I'm hearing now is the best sound I've ever had so who knows. I would like to hear something based around a Wolfson DAC though, just for reference. The trouble is that it's not easy to find a different DAC without either spending a fortune or buying something with an I regret amp. I hate spending money for features I don't need. The one option I've found is the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100. I'd like to try out one of those some day.

Having the correct attenuation module for your headphones also helps with fine tuning the volume.
