Ultimate Ears UE11

The condition of this pair was pretty trashed though.

WTF!!! is that FR for real?

I was on the fence between getting a UERM or UE-11 at the LAX meet. After seeing these graphs, the UERM looks to be the way to go.
Still will probably listen to both, but if the UE-11 sounds like that graph looks, then no way jose.

Yeah - they are very darn bassy. The forwardness in part of the mids helps to offset this.

I thought that would be a good smiley for these kinds of measurements :)p14 :-0
That little 10k ridge is so cute!

The 3.5K and 7K peaks remind me of this:

maybe they need to be fixed and re-measured ;-)

Haha.
Karma points for you.

Without revealing too much about the secrets of your pair. The tips were shredded! They didn't that bassy to me. It's possible the shredded tips blocked some of the treble response.

Anyone got the UE18?
-
I think quite a few of us have heard the universal demo.
-
Just wondering, how was it?

Bassy, warmer than UERM, flat sounding, lack of dimensionality. Failed ES5 comes to mind.
-
I'm guessing its bassy with everything.

Yeah, no it's not recording dependent. Transparent is not a word I'd use w/ the UE18. However, I was told by UE during my last visit that the UE18 was designed to be used in conjunction w/ those portable packs they perform w/ at concerts.
-
Are the portable packs suppose to sound more neutral or something?
-
It's got some bass emphasis, think 11 trying to have some sparkle. But unsuccessfully. I wanted to like the 18, but after several attempts to get to know it I never connected as much with it as I did the 11 and the UERM. I didn't dislike it as much as Anax, but it didn't do what I wanted. I was hoping for an 11 with more detail, it never seemed to deliver.
Maybe we can get Cee Tee to pop in, he's got more recent experience with it.

Something...I thought it was an interesting comment, might have to prod and listen further sometime.
-
Yes please. Thank you.

I do happen to like the 11 better than the 18. 18 is too warm for me and I have gotten to like the UE11. I don't hear it like these measurements (but after 9kHz the measurements are unreliable and we may not hear that peak)?
After having and spending time with all of the demos, there are 3 options that I am still considering as a second pair...
UE4: Best value & clear sound. "Baby UERM". I can work out with them and not feel guilty. Clear shells only.
UE11: Some U-shape but the bass/low bass seem tight & more linear with proper amping. Fun + a good compliment to the UERM.
UE PRM: Adding treble in my left ear makes for a more coherent sound and better balance.
I need to try some amping before the tuning box to see if that helps the PRM demo bass control. (The UE11 also lose some bass control without good amping.)
-
Keep in mind the following:
- This UE11 was thoroughly trashed and was an experimental silicone model.
- The UE11 and UE18 were designed more to be used as stage monitors. Extra bass or warmth is often helpful is that situation because that's how things actually sound when you are on stage (treble roll-off because you generally aren't facing the PA / sound reinforcement speakers, unless you have dedicated monitors pointing toward you), and even then, there's still a big blob of bass and warmth.

Ah ok makes sense. Thanks for the tips guys.
