I don't understand why every graph i've seen of the Dj100 seems to show them with upper mids that have fallen off a cliff. The one here is sort of similar to the one on Headroom's website and on Inner Fidelity.
I can't even hear that major dip at 5k. To me they actually seem to have slightly forward upper mids and I've always felt this. It's never coming from my amp or DAC. I'll say that with my Magni or Headroom Micro to ODAC they sound more balanced that with anything else.
I've noticed Koss now drills the holes in the cup straight down to the metal. I wonder why? Previously it was just into plastic. The Tony Bennett version I got for $50 has the holes drilled straight down. My last pair didn't.
I'm also one of those nuts that finds them more revealing than my HD-650, KRKs and Q701
Sound pretty good from the Magni+ODAC. Somehow I can't get into them without a nice amp/dac.
Someday i'd love to see if they measure different with M50 pads. Right now i'm using stock and somehow they've gotten comfortable.
For me, they're good for any of my poor recordings that are harsh or too bright. It's not like an HD-650, but they sort of take the edge off some of the crap I have. The mids don't sound any more forward than that of the HD-598 though, just the upper mids.
One of the headphones that measures fairly poorly that I love. Think I listen to it every day..
