Yeah that's what I was looking at. I really didn't want to do the Duelund and Clarity caps, thats just too much money that would be better served buying a better amp. Analytical doesn't really bother me though, but I guess I could go Superior, I just wanted more transparency which the Silvers would provide it would seem.

Are those Motor Run caps actually any good? they are massive though...What is Anax running in his currently?

I'm running the Duelunds in the Interstage. The Solens are pretty transparent already tbh.  Their biggest flaw is the biting treble grain.  The silvers sound more airy and spacious but a bit more grey and less dynamic.  The Duelunds improve on pretty much all fronts sad to say for hurting wallets.  I've given up on the Clarity caps as a side grade sound that I no longer find appealing due to some corrections I've made upstream and downstream in my chain.  The motor caps are overall superior to the Clarity caps at a fraction of the price and offer better overall resolution and dynamicism.  The Clarity caps were an over correction to deal with issues I no longer have.  Both the feedback and interstage caps are equally important in my opinion/experience.  The impression of one being more important over the other is simply a matter of one cap being less transparent than the other providing a false reading.  It all matters.

Soup, don't listen to him. He's just leading you down a black hole of OCD where you are going to be rolling caps for a month before you can actually start to enjoy any music.

Well shit...Anax, I want to see a pic of your S7, do you just have the Motor Run caps strapped to the sides of the case? Are you using the ones that dbel linked? cause those things are massive! And even if I got those, and they are super cheap, I'm still not sure I could rationalize the 370 dollars for the Duelund caps for the interstage...maybe do the Jantzen silvers in the interstage still.

Or...Ill just listen to Purrin, and if I enjoy the EC sound, Ill just get on the list for the 445 with xenon PSU and call it a day and sell the S7 as is when it shows up. rather than spend shit tons on 6SN7s and caps rolling. Is it still up in the air if he'll even do another run of the 445?

Still up in the air. Although another run of 445 is looking rather likely.

However, there are now two other possibilities:
  • A 445 variant using the same OPT with just one pair of 2A3 tubes (with direct coupled 6SL7) dedicated to headphone listening (not speakers necessarily). Plate resistance of one 2A3 ~= 2x45. Direct coupled (a la the old Moth) would eliminate the interstage. This might be very interesting.
  • As mentioned before, there's serious consideration for a similar Cinemag OPT for the 2A3mk4. It a matter of economic viability. Will the R&D cost be worth it? From the interest in the mk4, things do look good.

I know that feeling Soup. I can spend hours listening to my setup and be thoroughly engaged in the same way that I could only experience at a live performance   Yet I still can't help thinking about what I could do to make it better.   If you want my opinion the God amp or mk4 aren't so much more than the S7 that it is out of reach.  We aren't talking MSB diamond or DCS stack territory.

I second Marvey...listen to the S7 and enjoy it as is, maybe do some less expensive mods.  If you are like me the OCD won't stop until you end up with what you want anyway. Better to skip the in between stress.

or just do one mod. the motor run (or other cheap film) caps in place of the lytics. The lytics in the feedback loop are the weakest link.

That does make the most sense, but I really want to see a picture of Anax's S7 with those giant motor run caps strapped to the sides

Huh, that direct coupled variant seems really interesting. I guess I don't really understand much about tubes, but if it were possible to make them direct coupled why not do that for all of them? Is the 6SL7 not as good or something? And as Anax said in the shout box when I was comparing the mk2 and mk4, you'd lose out on the benefits of paralleled output tibes(not that I know what those are). The mk4 with the same transformers as the 445 is still another interesting option. And I really don't have any intention of running speakers with the amp so headphones only for less money is good with me.
