Nice one Jake - playing a role is not 100% as you well know but sure dont let me stop you in your quest for attention.

Simple fact is people look at the LCD-3 packaging and see an LCD-2 in a different color of wood without putting it on their head. Once they put it on their head, they may change their mind but I think personally a few might not instead wanting more value for their money.

It'll be hard to give a correct comparison since it's like comparing a a pick-up truck with a Viper-engine to a Mazda MX-5,
Compare what? Their size? Their sound signature? Their sound staging/imaging properties? Their cost?

Kind of hard to compare an aprox 400 USD balanced armature IEM to 1000-1950 USD full-size planar magnetics.
Thanks for the explanation regarding sound staging. I wasn't aware of that. Must have missed it during my residency in audiology.

Had a slightly humorous audio encounter at my house a couple of weeks ago. I had some friends over, and one of them is a DJ who admits he has hearing damage from years of working on the airstrip at SFO.

Andy: Hey, let me listen to dubstep on your headphones
Me: Okay, these LCD2s are probably the best for those.
He puts on the headphones, then opens up YouTube to find his dubstep songs  facepalm
Andy: No offense, but these sound exactly like my Samsung Galaxy headphones.
Me: Really? Samsung has headphones out?
Andy: Yeah man, they came with my Galaxy S3 phone... facepalm
Me: The earbuds? Wow, those must be nice.
Andy: Yes they are -- even better than these LCD2s actually. These LCD2s have mids and highs, but they don't have any bass.
Me: Your earbuds have more bass than these LCD2s?

This tickled me .....

But knowing the 770s are for sure flat and hearing the 380s were 'colored', I remembered my mission was to get flat phones.  So I dont want to go way down to ted browns for the 940s if they arent true flat like the 770s?

At last, a true reference.
