Its been a while, but I figured I'd feature another, even rarer Moth product.  In fact its one of a kind.

Moth Audio had two 300B products in its lineup - the 300B paradigm and the i300B.  (The si300 does not use 300B's.)  This is neither:

Every time I see this badge I just melt.

Mmm... Simpson meters.

Unlike the Electra, this amp uses one meter for both tubes' biasing with a switch.  If you'll notice, its built into an original Xana chassis, the last one available.  Estimated sold units on the Xana range from 2-5, I'm inclined to believe the 5 number as it comes from Ryan Clarin/Recstar who is a reliable source on EC and Craig. Coincidentally, that's probably my favorite 6moons feature ever so thanks Ryan.

Outputs are obviously the 300B's, drivers are two 6F6's and a 6SN7, rectifier is a GZ34.  Coolest part is yet to come though....

Yep, those are the same transformer covers from the Sphynx.

Oh my goodness I want the Levi to be in this style.  Craig needs a significant other who cares about looks.  And Mike doesn't count.

And of course, nothing is complete without schematics, which Craig sent out with the amp with some key misleading points so that Iran wouldn't be able to build one of their own:

That is beautiful Tari, is this one yours?

That old Moth gear has such a killer style, I can't picture it sitting anywhere other than a lounge in a Gothic European castle.

Not mine.  Found the old listing on Audio Asylum, spent a while looking for pictures until I found them and reposted.  These were from a sale listing in 2007.

While packing away one of my 2A3's I was bowled over by Moth's meticulousness and detail in every facet of design and packaging, it simply blows away everything before or since in the headphone world (and I've had it all.)

Firstly, there's the amp itself:

This beast is heavy, I once lifted it immediately before lifting the BHSE and almost fell as the BHSE was maybe a quarter the weight.  It is absolutely stately and so perfectly retro without trying too hard.

Then there's the portholes.  No glowy at the moment but this just beckons to me (ECC35):

By now you may be thinking this thing is just a beast.  Well, it is... but here's a shot of it next to its box wooden case:

What else is in the box?  Well, there is:

Foam and a mysterious stamped envelope:

That contains the best booklet I've ever seen (had a standalone price of $17.50 in case you lost yours at the time.)

There was a warranty card and a whole booklet printed on primo paper:

Then you get to the effin' custom stamped wax seal (I opened it)

What's inside this totally over the top documentation?

A user key for schematics, tube types, transistors...

And actual schematics:

Anyways, the whole thing is absolutely unbelievable compared to anything these days, and I am including all gear by EC, Cavalli, Headamp, the Apex Pinnacle, and a whole lot else on that list.  Just a beauty.  Glad I'm still keeping one.

So much sexy times.  The only real Moth amp I owned (EC2a3) compares like a prototype to yours in the casework department.  The case was very light steel (easily flexed) and I never had a crate or any goodies to go along with it; second handed though so maybe it came with them?  It may also have been made during the Eddie Current transition.  Some EC amps came with a nice wood crate.

The transformers were externally mounted to circumvent hum I believe.  Still sounded amazing and wish I had the means to have hung onto it!

This may have been the exact amp: http://www.head-fi.org/t/142897/meta-moth-phosis-eddie-current-ec2a3-undercover-pics-56k

I was the custodian of the Moth 2A3 for a while, and it is indeed a beautiful piece of art. Most amps don't hold a candle. Perhaps at most they make a pantomime motion like they're holding a candle, up and down and up and down. People do this same motion when they see Moth gear.

The wood crate was big enough to use to ship myself. The manual had better build quality than some statement products. The inside of the amp was even more beautiful than the outside.

That switch to toggle the power was so thick and satisfying, like flipping the switch of a time machine. CLUNK. The jewel lights up next to it. I wish more amps looked like they could help you meet a dinosaur.
