Title: John Grado HF-2 Frequency Response and CSD Waterfall Plots
Post by: Marvey on March 09, 2012, 07:40:40 PM
John Grado HF-2 Frequency Response and CSD Waterfall Plots. The most tolerable John Grados - at least to me. I enjoy them out of the ECBA.

I thought they were the best John Grado too.  Except for maybe the vintage RS1 with brown headband and flat pads...

I'm surprised you can enjoy them with those three ridgelines.  I guess they aren't hitting your critical zone or your listening quietly?

No No No. Not a good idea to crank up Grados. The RS-1 I find tolerable for about 10 minutes. Here's a comparison:

HF2 (bowl pads)
RS1 (bowl pads)
SR80 (comfy pads)

I would wonder how SR80 with the bowl pads would measure... scary thought. The extra bass from the HF-2 goes a long way to making more tolerable than the others.

I'm guessing the green line is the HF2?

Have you heard them Mike?  It's been awhile, but I heard them as being fairly smooth, though bright of course and the deal breaker for me was what I heard as recessed mids (which was made worse or caused by the elevated treble)

HF2 harmonic distortion

It's a fun sounding headphone, somewhat refined at the same time...

my fav grado, like it even more than the ps500.
the bass on the hf2 for me was a bit messy all around though which is odd because i'm not sure where in these measurments that fact is shown?

the hf2 had some of the most accurate and realistic treble i've heard (percussion cymbals etc) which again is odd since the graph seems to suggest it's pretty jagged up high. I didn't find that to be the case.
