I hear the bump ~700Hz, but I don't think I hear the upper midrange or treble spikes at all. Maybe they were there, but the stats present these so differently. If anything, these are warming sounding with emphasis on mids. I also felt they lacked air. 2nd order distortion is mostly low. 3rd order is pretty good. 4th and 5th higher order is somewhat high (I measured again with adjusted microphone sensitivities to confirm).

The measurements do not reflect what I hear. I think the seal is too good with the coupler.

The response on these appears to be substantially different than on the old model - http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/StaxSR003SA1993.pdf (http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/StaxSR003SA1993.pdf). Their HD remains superb  :)p1

I hear the spikes but only problematic if I turn it up really loud but they still have a softer edge to them compared to BA/DD drivers.  This is an overall Stax sig I think.  I do get a a greater sense of midbass than the graph indicates.  Too much warmth is still a function of perhaps too deep or tight of a fit.  You really want just the o-ring to nestle at the edge of your ear canal almost on the verge of feeling like they will fall out.  That will help open them up and add more air.

Yes, this is probably why not having the headband clamp down helped with reducing the excess warmth. It was not a seal issue for me. The only problem is without the headband, they tend to fall out. Not gonna both messing with it. It is what is is. Like how it shouldn't be my responsibility to have mess with a universal version of a custom to supposed make it sound more like the custom. If UE or even JH can do it, so can cough, cough, cough.
