Ultrasone Pro900 (defective) Frequency Response and CSD Waterfall Plot.
I'm pretty sure this headphone is defective. At least I would hope so.

This is probably one of Ultrasone's better sounding headphones.

I thought everyone should get a laugh. I do know this pair has been used and abused a lot in the past few years and probably ground into the dirt.

Looks about right for the 900. Ultrasone doesn't bother with petty goals like reproducing a reference curve.

I still have my pair lying around somewhere underneath the couch. They don't sound as quite in your face offensive as the graph suggests, but after a half hour of listening you inevitably develop a headache.

Ultrasone may be onto something. If you average the two channels, the curve looks pretty decent.

I believe that's how their U-sound technology works. Leverages the ear/brain adaptive mechanisms.

Seriously though, these are one of the better Ultrasones.

I was just about to say that...

Are these the Dark Knight special edition? These look like they were probably tuned specifically to account for the outer-ear physiology of Harvey Dent:

Oh sweet lord thanks for the laugh, made my day.

You sure do seem to get a lot of defective headphones Marv.  You have really bad luck.  Everyone else on HF seems to get perfectly matched "good versions" which is verified by the the 99% of HF who have superhuman channel imabalance detection devices implanted in their brains.

Harvey Dent? I love you guys.  ;D :-*

But, wow Pro900. Didn't anything could be that poorly matched.

Tbh, I think the Pro900 is the worst Ultrasone I have ever heard.  You liked this one because you only had to listen to half of it.  Or rather the disparities in FR had some sort of noise cancellation effect at the brain.  This pair did sound almost acceptable but it's because they didn't work.  I've heard 2 Pro900s before and ripped them off after 10 seconds flat.  Those were same sounding to each other, unlike this sample.

I wonder if the Ultrasone's suffer from Beyer Syndrome.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are all like this. My proline 750 was pretty bad also and I am pretty sure that if those were measured they would give you some horrible results too.

Wow.....

I guess my "no love" stance for Ultrasone is well justified.

In cases where one driver is defective, I would normally post the good side. In this case, I'm not sure which side was defective. It sounded to me like the right side was defective, but then again the right side looks more like the typical Ultrasone sound.

The fact that you can't even really tell is a sad, sad commentary on Ultrasonne...

None of the Ultrasone units have matched channels on their FR..  the variances are so different!!!

Maybe its something todo with the S-Logic mumbo jumbo and the dummy head used for measurements

I wanted so eagerly to try one of these ultrasone, after seeing all the hype at head-fi.
The     "Ultrasone Pro 900 Appreciation Thread" got more than 5000 posts making me believe they must be quite popular.
Malveaux the "bass head" guy ,  even was temporarily seduced by the ultrasone 900 before moving to denons .
He was recommending the ulrasone hifi 650 to a lot of newbies during a period.
There's also an article raving the ultrasone 750 at anythingbutipod.

A least I  love their design in general. Even if ultrasone edition 10 sounds bad, you must admit they look good.
And that ruthenium thing , never  heard about it before the edition 10 was released.
