Title: Help to choose cable for Grado alessandro MS1i
Post by: Lumos on October 19, 2013, 11:50:41 AM
Heya

I need to recable my Alessandro MS1i headphones and I was searching 4 connector but twin cable like this -- (http://a2.images5.thomann.de/pics/prod/234264.jpg)

(something like Senn HD650 or T1 twin cable) I am aware of Canare, Mogami stuff but I don't want to take off rubber jacket and insulate cable again

Can you recommend some twin cables?

Thank You
Cheers

purrin and c61746961

we can buy T1 cable from German web http://www.thomann.de/gb/sommer_cable_peacock_aes_ebu_schwarz.htm but shipping costs make them expensive :( and cable itself is expensive, I need 100 foot...

I hope something will be available in USA

I have used a few of REDCO's own TGS ( the good stuff ) cables

I have not used this one particularly http://www.redco.com/Redco-TGS-02.html but it looks like it will do the job nicely.

The TGS-01 is a very nice thin cable ( with 2 wires )

I'm currently waiting for custom made cable based on this wire coming my way - http://www.audiocrast.com/Audiocrast-OCC-Silver-plated-wire-0.75MM-%C2%B2.html
This guys have a nice cable collection there http://audiocrast.com/products/75/index.html and can assemble all cable per request, twist wires, put it in jacket and so on. Takes them 1-2 days to answer each mail however.

Huge thanks for suggestions people  :)p1 I am wondering if it is possible to find twin cable, I have tried all local stores but they don't have something like specificity I described...

I am in the same predicament...

I have used the Sommer cable (Peacock double balanced) on my Sennheiser HD650... it was difficult to get it nicely in the connectors an the jack, and quite heavy... i will not recomment it...

Alternatively i have used a Mogami Neglex 2534 (starquad balanced), easy in the connectors, easy to get it in the jack, the stripped two twisted pair part is very flexible, the cable itself is heavy and not very flexible... so although i am not exactly happy it does the job at the moment  (not on the HD650's which i have sold now, but on my modified FostexT50rp.)

Sound wise i liked both they are on the warm side, which i like very much.

I have used also a ready piece of silver plated copper HiFiMan new type headphone cable, easy to manipulate lightweight (looking very snazzy), but little light on the lows and some kind of treble imbalance...

I am also looking into some kind of pure copper (no silver plate, i am not fond of the treble issues) starquad is the easiest to use, but i am not afraid to braid/wind single cables...

I am going to use these cables on both my HD800's and my Fostex's

Someone suggested the Mogami micro cables... has anyone tried them?

Any help will be appreciated

OK folks, It seems we have these choices:

Gotham GAC-2prflt http://www.redco.com/Gotham-GAC-2prflt.html I can't find how much is capacitance but similar cable here have 75 nF/km 75
http://www.gotham.ch/en/index.php?section=docsys&cmd=23_details&id=12

Gepco D72401EZGF
http://www.redco.com/Gepco-D72401EZGF.html
Capacitance: 28 pF/ft between conductors, 51 pF/ft between one conductor and other tied to shield as their web site tells

Mogami W3106 http://www.redco.com/Mogami-W3106.html which is expensive for me 32 foot cost me around 40$
capacitance: shield conductors 77pF/m (23.5pF/Ft) between neighbour conductors 10pF/m(3.1pF/Ft)

Or Sommer cable as linked above 2.88 Euro for 1 meter crazy expensive

I am gonna get cheap Gepco cable first and I would like to know your opinions... have anyone tried this before?

Hmm... Sommer cable seems to have more worst specifications:

Capac. cond./cond. per 1 m   70 pF
Capac. cond./shield. per 1 m 125 pF

http://sommercable.com/2__produkte/2__030_meterware/2__200_0551.html

Does not bother to buy this, Beyer uses this cable for T1 so the fact itself makes cable crap.  :)p1  :)p1 (joking) but it seems they do all crap things which they can and can not, for example my friends T1 arrived damaged, left side was rattling, and I replaced driver which was crazy expensive also, but their service was much more expensive
