Post your WTF sports moments here.

Some Dodgers weirdness this season:

Singling to right and being thrownout at first...twice!

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Thompson Show.  I've been playing or watching this game since 1972.  There has never been anything like it.

In their culture, they say that the Creator gave them the game, to play for His enjoyment.  These guys are the embodiment of that attitude.

There are so many videos of Rossi battling.  This one with Stoner was epic.  I've raced on this track and the passes he pulls are beyond insane!  That move on the corkscrew was a crash for anyone else.

The Laguna Seca battle with Stoner was racing at its best on TV at the time. They were so close on each other and the suspense was enough to keep me watching the whole race...

shipsupt- Rossi taking the corkscrew in the dirt was one of the most amazing things I have seen.  :-DD  Stoner later went off the track thinking about how crazy that was and was mentally dealt a big blow.  Have to admit that Stoner did look so damn fast in person at Laguna and unfortunately, Rossi has not been as inspired there since.  Rossi made me change my schedule and get SpeedTV to watch MotoGP for several seasons...

A player can go out of bounds and come back in.  Play only stops of the ball goes out of bounds.

Actually, if a player goes out of bounds on their own and them comes back into play, it's a penalty.

If they're forced out of bound by another player, then it's legit as far as I know.

koth, if you were talking about the guy with the ball, then no...he never went out of bounds.

Umm, No.

A player who has gone out of bounds cannot be the the first to touch a kicked or thrown ball, but otherwise most certainly can come back on the field without penalty.

The player must get back on to the field as soon as possible or he can be penalized with an unsportsmanslike conduct penalty.

Ship, I was referring to #83., the receiver that threw the block. He went out of bounds and then came back in. Maybe he was pushed.
Title: Re: WTF Sports moments
Post by: shipsupt on December 22, 2014, 02:47:26 PM
As long as it he didn't go out of bounds to make a play in a way that would draw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he would not be penalized.  He should make every effort to stay in bounds.

In watching the video again I guess you could make an argument that he left the playing field to make a hit, which could be interpreted as unsportsmanlike and be a penalty, but I don't think that referees are generally that strict on enforcing that rule for blocking in situation like this. There is momentum involved and things are happening quickly.  If there was no penalty back at the hit he made out of bounds then he certainly can return to play and hit the guy downfield.

If he had made an interception after stepping out like that, it would certainly not have counted.

Hey, I'm not an NFL referee so I certainly could be wrong, but I think I have a fair understanding of the rules.

Title: Re: WTF Sports moments
Post by: aufmerksam on December 22, 2014, 04:22:35 PM
Ship has it correct, the best you can get is unsportsmanlike for failure to return promptly to field of play, but Lockette CLEARLY got back on the field promptly. That fucking play... I want to believe the shove to Peterson while they are both out of bounds is unnecessary, but even that was legit (its only unnecessary roughness if the pushed player has the ball or if it happens during a kick). Sigh, take comments with a block of salt, I am a tragic Arizona Cardinals fan, and the season has turned ... salty.

Yeah, technically 4 blocks on the same play by a WR of all people! That's good coaching and good teamwork. Most WRs would have just sat down once Lynch got through the line.

Right.  I didn't say it clearly.  It's not an automatic penalty when they come back in, but they can't catch passes, etc.

You see it most often on punts.

Ringingears...I'm guessing you're a 49ers fan?  If so, I hate you right now.  If they had beaten the Chargers, the Bengals would be in the playoffs already.

Instead, I have to go watch them get blown out by the Broncos tonight and then wait another week to find out if we'll get in or not.

Clausen already showed he was better as did McNown last year with his ungodly rating. Clausen was great last game, receivers dropped 8 gimme passes. D-Line had two more starters go down. All the evidence shows the system is fine, Cutler is just a bonehead with an arm. He has a serious lack in fundamentals that even a 6 year old pop warner QB would have. Cutler is only starting due to Clausen's concussion.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2306955-bears-jimmy-clausen-takes-helmet-to-helmet-hit-retaliates

Clausen is tough and gritty which we haven't had since McMahon, Tomczak and Harbaugh (sort of). A Bears QB can't be a bitch.

Yep, I knew it was the concussion.

Still not convinced that the Bears really have any answers at the position, but time will tell.
