Well, as to speculation about whether they will sell the headphone separately, the jack for "Headphone 2" certainly implies they will. Now, the real question is whether or not headphone alone is only nominally cheaper than headphone plus marble-wrapped, dac-filled, pushpop-tube amplifier.

Separately, I have decided the legs seen in photo 2 belong to a guy whose entire job is to reach forward and smack the hand of whoever so dares to try and touch the thingamabob.

Good catch didn't think of that. The fact that it's located with all the other digital inputs confused me. In fact I can't quite make out where the front panel connector is....

Ahh, more likely there's a "HEADPHONE 1" connector right there.

Oh oh! Good thing I'm PRETTY satisfied with my HD-800's.  I can't possibly like the sound.....can I!?!!  facepalm
Guys, if anyone is even REMOTELY thinking of something like this, you will get way way more with investment into a speaker rig.

Still, if someone DOES buy this, no I won't judge ya! :)  To each their own!

Does whole system cost *in the poll* include a mythical "headphone 2"?

Looking at that "Headphone 2" output, it looks like they are providing an output for a second pair of the same headphone if someone cares to roll like that!

Yeah, at first I thought "what the fuck input is THAT? is sennheiser going full sony and creating a proprietary digital connector as well as a new uber-def format?"

Agreed. But hey, look at all the Senn amp/DAC buyers. It was designed by Sennheiser so it must be the perfect match for their headphones.

Too bad they couldn't put a lock on it this time around. Who knows maybe bass heavy and more expensive limited edition with a gold lock and diamond encrusted keys will come out later ;-).

Look ma, is this a limited edition someone was talking about, where all the knobs and tubes hide in the marble body via motorized mechanism? Cool, I want one....now ma, NOW!

I just cant fathom who would actually want such ludicrous "features". It's gonna be $40k and it would cost half that if it didnt have the pointless motorization and fucking marble. Why??? This isn't luxurious, it's retarded.

Wait, wait, wait. Marble? Motorized tubes? A jack-in-the-box headphone presentation?

In something that's 1000x uglier than the original Orpheus?

And in an all-in-one, conveniently non-upgradable package, so you'll be stuck with the DAC du jour for the next 10 years?

...alll while you try to sell Urbanites to millennials with truly disturbing (and condescending) marketing?

How far you have fallen, Sennheiser. And how sad.

The only thing that could possibly make these headphones more cool are $40,000 3D printed customized shields made out of rhodium.

You print a primitive out of a high-detail polymer and use the resulting part to make a cast. Pour in the metal of your choice and you have 3D printed jewellery.

This how shapeways does most of their metals, though steel is laser-sintered from a powder.

Ultrasone would sue you for this idea!

On topic, this marble thing stupidity is magnitudes above what I thought a company like Sennheiser might put forward. This kind of ultra-high-end e-stat headphone surely aims a niche market, who demands legendary sonics and Panzer-like construction first. Some good aesthetics and luxury would be a bonus, but always secondary. Those people are not buying furniture or home decoration.

What evar the end price will be I'm sure the marble case (if its not dolomite, which is cheap) + other bonkers add ons are still not going to justify the number.

edit: The whole package looks like intestines of a roadkill spread over asphalt. I hope for the brands name sake this is some silly beta design evaluation.

Maybe they need to make marble headphones too.
It seems there's quite the choice for loudspeakers housed in marble.
http://www.markdanielofamerica.com/ or you can even make custom ones I think on http://www.marblespeakers.com/
I remember Stereophile covering something from a show a couple years back. I guess they're not going to be very portable

Honestly, now that I've looked at it for a bit I'm more offended by the waste of engineering resources that went into this thing then the gaudiness of it all.

Sennheiser was once at the forefront of headphone R&D and now with products like this (IMO clearly aimed at the "too much money" asian/middle east market) it seems that it's all about the money.  Not cool. :(

So... you've found your new kitchen system, right?

But I wouldn't advise it: marble is too soft. Not recommended as a cutting board.

(Is it, seriously, marble? Are features/spec actually available? All I saw on Senn's site was a video, which I can't be bothered to watch)

Any news on if the amp and headphones are sold separately? Or perhaps there is a choice to buy the amp and headphones together as a package deal price rather than if you bought the amp and headphones separately.

P.S. If I missed the answer to this question in one of the posts, I apologize, I read all of the posts, but could have possibly missed the answer to my question.

P.S.S. I know you can hardly see the headphones themselves in OJneg's first post in this thread, but from what I can see, they kinda look like the The Sennheiser Orpheus style.

Hard to say that design is Sennheiser's strength. Their pop-up stores in NY an SF (http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/sennheiser-opens-pop-stores-new-york-and-san-francisco-holiday-season) were all kinds of creepy. (H/T Godwin)

The morbid overtones of the granite chassis may be part of the design language, intentional or not.

ding ding ding! my favorite part about the whole forced opulence is that the only people who stand a chance at being impressed by this will already know how outrageously expensive it is, because they are headphone geeks. Everyone else is going to think its a marble wrapped humidor until they lift the lid, see headphones, and ask "wtf?"

So long as it doesn't bend :P

I was told that the Orpheus used glass stators which made it so expensive. Wonder if they have the same thing going on
