No one should get to decide that something isn't an official CanJam, this event certainly appears well-organized and fitting of the criteria.

I should have said Canjam not associated with Head-Fi.

Last year it was not allowed to talk of the event on HF and some post were deleted.

Back from Munich, a great show as always with tons of gear. Managed to find time for a few interesting things among others:

-the HiFiman 1000 cans (if cans still applies, the form is far from standard). There were 2 pairs, both connected to the same amp and sounded very well indeed. Fast and detailed bass, clear and detailed with faithful timbre and good extension in to the higher frequencies. Only one small issue, I think that one of the units was more sibilant than the other (these are still preproduction samples, this should be ironed by the time they reach the market)

-the new VIVA headphone amp (2A3 design, still pricey though at 5-6K..) in glorious Lamborghini orange and with almost the same output transformers. Paired with the LCD-3 it sounded almost better than the notorious Egoista 845.

-the Engimacoustics Dharma headphones with matching amplifier, these are very promising. Speaking with the company personnel I was told that other models will follow in the future. The passage between the 2 drivers is almost unnoticeable in show conditions (they were down the hall, open space with lots of noise)

-Chord DAVE was also presented, but no sound came out (static display). Looks are in typical Chord fashion while sound should be similar (same principles, SMPS)

Finally I managed to catch up with Casey, the first US based Changstar member I ever met with in person. That was on Sunday evening in Munich's airport but still we talked a bit about cans and amps. Hopefully next time we will do things with more time to spare and preferably a couple of beers too.

Munich totally rocked my dome....literally.  I had a blast! Maybe even too much fun, for my own sake.

Pan, it was great meeting you in person.  Sorry we had to chat at the freakin' checkpoint though LOL.  Next time lets do dinner and drinks elsewhere in lieu of pissing off the Police  :)p13 :)p13 :)p13

The thing is that when I asked to audition DAVE I was told that is was not possible because they did not want tired reviewers writing negative stuff about their latest creation. Which is complete rubbish of an excuse if you ask me, just say it is not ready yet as everybody else does.

@Casey Next time we do things the proper way, pork knuckles and weiss beer till we drop..

Well, some of us reviewers are tired of hearing Chord's same negative sound. The whole Dr. Who aesthetic can only go so far to alter the reality distortion field of how crap your gear sounds for the price if one has had the proper Jedi or Sith mind training.

Seems like Chord is trying to build a hype train prematurely. Oh well, not gonna lose any sleep over that.

Was there any information on a release date for the Viva?

I did get banned from the head-fi SF May 2 meet impressions thread for saying the Geek Out V2 > Leckerton outperformed the Hugo TT with my headphones. I suspect they don't like folks stating that $600 of products beat out their $4200 product based off show/meet impressions. Almost certain they had words with Jude after that which led to my thread banning.

I spoke with Amedeo Schembri (designer and owner of VIVA) and the release date is not far away. Are you really interested in a 6K euro headphone amp?

As everybody was expecting a lower price, I asked him if this is going to happen, he replied that it is impossible with this particular chassis but they have something in mind (3K euro) for the future.

@gelocks

Perfect sound went totally under my radar, sorry mate.

I also spoke with Gullman of MSB and he pointed out that the output stage of the new MSB select dac is strong enough to drive headphones directly, so yes if you have $90.K for the dac you will not have to spend extra money for the headphone amp!!! Isn't that great?

It is... if you are selling Or, for some people, if you just bought.
