Title: Final Fantasy VII Released for IOS today
Post by: The Alchemist on August 21, 2015, 06:00:15 AM
As the title states, Final Fantasy VII was Released for IOS today. It is awesome on the iPad. The Graphics are about the same as the original on the PS1, but the resolution of the iPAD screen makes it look a bit better.

You can purchase the game for $19.99 at the Apple Store.

If you've never played it, it's one of the best RPG's ever IMO, if you have played it, it is great to have on IOS (You can also get it for PC)

I played XI a long time ago, just took too long to run around and progress.  VII seems like the sweet spot in the lineup that everybody loves?

Not sure what's the point of releasing FFVII on iOS now when a remake is officially in order... if I were to introduce FF7 to someone who's never played it, I'd just tell them to wait for the remake.

Still, simply one of the best JRPG's ever made along with FFVI, FVIII and Chrono Trigger. The latest FF games have been, well, let's say we'd really like to have Mr. Sakaguchi and Uematsu back.

Well, you would have to have a ps4 or maybe a pc to play the remake. Lots of people have iOS devices that might not want to purchase a ps4.

Yeah VII is good, but I'd say VI was better and chrono trigger is better than both ;) all of them are available on iOS too

Have they announced any of the official changes to the remake?

Copy/pasta what I wrote elsewhere (some of this will be out of context):

Ew, Advent Children? :( FF7 is my favorite game of all time, probably, but...no, not that movie. And I'm worried about the remake given it's all in Nomura's hand. I don't care for the way he handles things as of late. Having him in a smaller role, like character designer, is about as far as I want to take it.

And they did say it will be a full remake. Potentially even down to an entirely different battle system. I'm worried about it. Am also not sure what to think of XV based on the demo, but it has potential.

I think FF6, FF7, and Chrono Trigger are sort of on the same level. Comes down more to preference. I loved them all, though I never actually finished 6. Something about the grungy atmosphere of Midgar and the whole FF7 OST just captivated me like those two games did not.

I agree! I loved FF6. It was my first introduction to the series. Sabin performing pile-drivers on certain bosses was immensely fun. 2 gut-wrenching decision points that were like "WTF!?!" Chrono Trigger, for me, was a bit too large. So many paths and so many endings. I totally understand why people consider it one of the best games on the SNES/SuperFamicom. I just don't like long replay games. FF7, the first polygonal FF and on a "new" storage media, was like a bigger FF6, but somehow not too big. The FMVs, at the time, were so realistic, I tried to rip and save them for rewatching.

I played XI a long time ago, just took too long to run around and progress.  VII seems like the sweet spot in the lineup that everybody loves?
Never played XI, but FF9, the last of the "old-style", was the same way. At the first city, you get like 20 quests, MogNet quest, etc. I really wanted to enjoy it as it was not moody like FF7 & FF8, but just too overwhelming!

I don't think I've ever finished a single Final Fantasy game (at least from the numbered titles), but I made it the furthest on FFVII. For some reason, no matter which game it is, I always hit some unexplainable level wall that I can't move past. I can never figure out why random encounters are suddenly killing me when I was overleveled during the section before.

How is the functionality on the app vs playing on PS1 with a controller? I played Lunar Silver Star Story Touch and it was pretty enjoyable on my iPhone, but can't imagine playing FF7 the same way.

I actually haven't played it on iPAD yet. I bought it and installed it but haven't had time to play it. I am not sure if you can connect a bluetooth controller to the game and use one or not. I can't imagine it being too painful on iPAD or iPhone, since it is turned-based combat and you can simply tap on the action you wish to perform. The only thing that may be a little weird is movement of the characters, but after one gets used to it, it'll be just fine I think. I really like FF7 on PC, if you have a good graphics card and monitor the graphics are amazing compared to ps1 version.

On a side note, there is an independent project in the works for FF7 called FFVII: Re-Imagined. Looks pretty cool to me! Website: http://ffvii-reimagined.com/ (http://ffvii-reimagined.com/)

totally missed this thread somehow, a little late to the party, but...

Not sure what's the point of releasing FFVII on iOS now when a remake is officially in order... if I were to introduce FF7 to someone who's never played it, I'd just tell them to wait for the remake.

The point is capitalizing on our nostalgia for a great game, which is enhanced by the fact that most people sold their PS1's (unwittingly to idiots who are using them as "teh best transport for your audio chain1!!"). Also, WHAT!? When the original is so iconic, I cannot imagine telling someone to wait until they release a remake. Especially if the remake ends up "improving" on the original.

As many others have reported, FFVI, VII, VIII and Chrono Trigger informed my youth. Shit, I had fun watching people play these games when I needed to take a break.

Well said! also FFVII re-imagined looks great, you can download the demo, it is only one level because the game is still in development, but the best part is that it is for non-profit, so the game will be free when it is released. I think it will be an interesting take on FFVII and probably a lot of fun.

Was going to eventually pony up for a PS3 and a PS4 to play Kingdom Hearts and FF remakes, but I think I'll just save money and play the originals if nothing other than graphics is increased. Though damn, I would like to play them with modern graphics.

This won't be the exact same game but with HD graphics, Nomura has said as much already.

"FFVII is special, and we cannot ‘surpass it’ just by making it look pretty. The original version is a product of 1997, so to look at it now you can feel its age in the graphics and game systems. But those things also make it VII, and it’s still got support even today, which is probably not going to change. So for something like FFVII, I don’t think merely redoing the graphics is enough to make something you can get excited by."

He's also said that they won't be using models from Advent Children, and that the style wouldn't fit the new game anyway. It's also been mentioned that they're thinking about how they're going to be reworking the battle system.

I am personally hoping they are very particular with who they select to work on this as many of the composers/devs that worked on the original are no longer with Square.  I would say that they did do a good job with Tactics: War of the Lions remake but FF7 is a classic for most people.

The other game I would love to see them redo is FFIX which is a great game.
