Title: An Open Letter to Stillhart
Post by: Marvey on August 29, 2015, 03:16:24 PM
So Stillhart, what's up with these potshots?

Purrin wasn't the most unbiased poster and he has a gaggle of sycophants who parrot whatever he thinks, but there was definitely some decent discussion in there if you could separate the wheat from the chaff.

If you believe Purrin (which is a big "if"), the Yggy walks all over the M7.

Only eight months ago, you were all gaga over the Hugo: "I heard the Chord Hugo this week at CES and was REALLY impressed by the sound quality." in my old DAC thread on HF (http://www.head-fi.org/t/693798/thoughts-on-a-bunch-of-dacs-and-why-delta-sigma-kinda-sucks-just-to-get-you-to-think-about-stuff/2100#post_11208719 (http://www.head-fi.org/t/693798/thoughts-on-a-bunch-of-dacs-and-why-delta-sigma-kinda-sucks-just-to-get-you-to-think-about-stuff/2100#post_11208719)). I advised you to look elsewhere because IMO the Hugo was a poor value.

In short time, you ended up with a vintage DAC, a Theta, presumably based on my own positive experience with the Gen V. Eventually you went your own way and moved on to the AGD DAC19. As I understand it, you prefer the DAC19 over the Gumby which is cool and something I totally understand. Although I personally prefer the Yggy/Gumby, I have advised people who have asked me in PM that the AGD PCM1704 based DACs would be preferable if they wanted a more rolled, warmer, lusher, romantic sound.

Your words are very hurtful to my feelings considering that you've actually met me and some of my friends (not sycophants) in person. They are also puzzling considering that you yourself went from opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of DACs, i.e. from the Hugo to the Theta, and then on to the AGD DAC19. Maybe a tiny bit of thanks for helping to point you the right direction (R2R) instead of the passive-aggressive-kind-of-a-shitty-act?

Anyways, have fun on your megalomaniac journey. At your current rate, you'll have 10k posts on HF by the second quarter of next year, and will have obtained Messiah status with your own army of sycophants who will parrot what you have say. You'll have the respect and authority that you crave soon enough.

Thank you...  :)p4

I've had my own run in with this character at HF. He jumped all over me in a thread, without fully reading my post and who my criticism was directed at (and so did a few of his minions). He jumped to conclusions without taking the time to finish my post beginning to end.The mods deleted the conversation, so I won't bother to reference it.

True, his post count is something to behold...

Maybe, if we met in person, we would get along. But as of now I really don't see that happening.

It'll be easier since many of the Purrin "sycophants" have either left or been silent banned by HF. To become what you hate or oppose is always a fascinating development in human nature. Or maybe it was just envy.

That said, I did have a couple of IM's with Stillheart before this blew up. No problems of what was discussed then, so this came out of left field.

Geez, I'm getting into it again with him on HF  :vomit:

In a thread, a person thinks with Gumby their $300-$500 headphone collection will not show it's true potential. They plan on going to a meet and listening to headphones in the $700-$1700 range to realize Gumby's full potential.

I told them my $320 HD650's give up nothing to my  $1000 LCD2.2F's. Just that the HD650's are a little more picky in which amp powers them.

"He" joins in, going on about used headphones and MSRP's...etc., missing the point that someone doesn't have to spend a ton of money for awesome sound.

Again he jumps the gun and gets all defensive and pissy. What a piece of work this guy is turning out to be. I'm sure he still holds a grudge from last time.

Bring a Koss KSC-75. That should teach them...

JK47 At this point, it's probably better to just ignore him on head-fi so that you could save yourself some frustration and time.

Ya, you're right. He just PMed me there, asked what my problem was, and why I'm arguing with him.

I told him exactly why and to just drop it. He will now be ignored permanently.

It's obvious he needs attention any way he can get it.

I've had my own run in with this character at HF.

I had a negative interaction with him too. Internally tagged him as an asshole.

I'm just going to hijack this thread with my own open letter to Marv,

I find it really hard to contact you either through email, PM or this forum. I would account it to you being very busy except that you seem to have plenty of time to post in threads that interest you. I know I ask stupid questions and my knowledge of this hobby is limited but as the face and first point of contact for a company it would be nice to be able to initiate some kind of conversation. I love the idea of Changstar being a welcoming place to noobs and some of the other members such as CEETEE have been kind enough to write me literal essays when i go to them for advice. Don't get me wrong, i really like this community and you are obviously a wealth of knowledge and well loved around here - I'd love to tap into that pool of knowledge at some point.

Regards,
Alex

Keep PM'ing me. Give it a few days. Do it again. And again. It's hard for me to keep up. This goes for everyone. I am horrible about responding to PMs and e-mail. Just the way it is. It's becoming more and more difficult for me to respond to everyone - lots of communications get lost in the cracks.

I've done something to your account which will make it easier for you to tap into the collective knowledge here.

Yup. A lot of us that know the Merv in RL are used to this. Don't take it personal, it's just his kids, wifey and 3 jobs jumping on him at the same time coupled with potential self-diagnosed ADD. He could probably use a secretary, err...administrative assistant. I just check my texts to make sure they were read.

Maybe that's what happened to Stillborn. You missed one of his pm's lol!

So Stillhart, what's up with these potshots?

I found the tone of that HF post to be quite shitty and coming out of nowhere. Considering how gung-ho he is on R2R DACs on the 2 Cavallli Liquid Carbon threads (not to mention the EtherC plugging), he knows you were right on the DACs, but still has to bash you.

Like go here and listen to the "S" sound:  http://www.speaknspell.co.uk/speaknspell.html  You get the idea that it's supposed to be an S but nobody would confuse that with someone actually saying the letter S.

R2R is like a real voice and D-S is like a Speak-n-Spell.  You might have a filter that makes your Speak-n-Spell less harsh, but it will never sound like a real person talking.  We just don't ever notice because we're so used to that crappy D-S sound.

EDIT:  WT heck..........Which recordings of crash cymbals are you using, what Sabre implementation, they all do not sound the same, regardless of chip.  And the R2R dacs I have owned in the past were not so good, by todays DS standards, even though some cost almost $3k. I disagree, and think your blanket characterization of dac topologies to be a bit short sided.  Yes,  you can have a great NEW r2r dac, and you can have some very good DS dacs.  Simply stating that one over the other because of topology is preposterous, IMHO.

Yeah I've been watching that thread. It's devolving so much that Cavalli will probably stop participating. Sad times.

Does that explain your new name? Was there a ceremony or baptism involved? Was there a cat present?

"Aprendí" meaning "I have learnt." I will remember this one and keep the capital in mind. At school they told me skip the capital; I will keep it.

Oh crap. U mean Español vs español. I think the language is lower case, while the nationality is upper case. I think. Most folks don't frown on that too much AFAIK.

LOL, this guy tried to blow a little joke of mine high into the sky and then finally a few moderators took pity on him and warned me via PM. Got two additional PMs from a few users who obviously felt heartbroken as well about him.

I remember his very first days on HF when he had a little meltdown because people didn't like his attitude. Once he grew a bit of knowledge here and there he became unbearable to quite a few.
