I was part of admin there, and boy, did I learn a lot. I feel that there's a similar thing going on here too unfortunately.

Definitely.. and forget such thing as "best headphone of the world" .. that does not exist.

There's only "personal preferred headphone for me and the music/recordings I listen to" . understanding there's no "world champion" headphone  is the best way to enjoy happily this hobby .

Too bad Music Alchemist won't accept this...

Music Alchemist is the biggest tool on HF. His constant praise for headphones which he has never heard and disdain for headphones which he spent a couple days before selling is everything that's wrong with that site.

Just a follow up, after spending the entire day testing out the Violetric V200 & the Matrix M Stage, the advice given was spot on.

The V200 does hide details that the HD800 is capable of. The M-Stage is much more airier & adds some noticeable slam to the bottom end of the HD800. Definitely adds to the strengths of the HD800.

That said, the V200 is still a much better amp (should be too, as it cost 3 times as much).
Music sounds much cleaner, smoother & much less harsh with it than the other amps I had. There is some perceived body being added to bass/mids.
It still exhibits sibilance though.

If it was only more airier & kept the clarity, I would probably stop looking for a amp.

Just throw the HD800 away. Lots of people don't like the HD800, with mods or without.

Not not noticing a difference.

Tested a song that had some serious sibilance & it still has it.
Though my cut of the shelf liner was crooked as f*ck, not covering all of the metal parts & some of the liner even covering up parts of the actual driver.
No pdf templates for the correct shelf liner cuts? All I seen are the ones for the memory foam sheets.

Speaking of which, tomorrow I'll go get some memory foam & felt sheets at a art supply store & see how they work.

^I can mod it for him using the same method I modded the HD600. I think the HD650 will respond better since it has lower bass distortion to begin with, and a more reasonable EQ. HD600 is slightly V-shaped at stock.

Have you guys ever tried open cell foam? You can basically get it at your local Walmart for 50 cents a bag. I used it before to dampen midrange reflections on pair of technics sb7000a I use to own and it worked well. Used it for my 240dfs before with good result as well before they bit the dust by testing an old guitar amp cause it sent DC through the headphone jack...anyhoo, I'm just guessing it can work pretty well for the back screening of the hd600/650 maybe..

The closest Walmart is about 1 hour from me. :(

But I'm open to everything, so... will try to get some and will report back. I should post a HD600 modding guide on the new site, too. The mod has been finished for a long while already, but I need some trusted ears to confirm that the mod does make sense.

no glue. They should rest right there.

So I bought shelf liner & cut a few pieces.
I'm supposed to just remove the dust cover & glue them around there right?
I don't need to unscrew or remove any thing additionally?
