Post by: zerodeefex on December 12, 2014, 07:54:59 AM
Update: Geek Pulse XFi will be here along with an unreleased LH product (shhh)! Also, I've added a bunch of portable amps and DACs and we'll set up a portable shootout station!
We're at capacity on deck:
10am - 4pm
I'm sure Gavin might have something exciting, otherwise between CT and I, I think we have the entire fully released catalog of LH gear.
We'll figure out something delicious to eat and between Ron, CT, QH and I, we'll figure out some good drink options.

HEADPHONES:
We'll have the following on hand, let me know what you're bringing:
We need more electrostats!

I'll have the following DACs on hand:
I have the following amps on hand:
We need more higher end DACs and amps along with some electrostats if anyone has some on hand.

Not likely... just wanted to check the dates to be sure. I don't think I'll be back until last week of February through early March.

You always crack me up.  But I did just get one from Costco.  Just in time for the Holidays. Good to have two though.

See if subjective impressions match up with the objective measurements...

NBD, just the HD800, Code-X, Abyss, and dBel84 modded HP1000 hanging out.

See the first post!

CEE TEE has graciously found some tables and chairs he can lend for the event <3

We need a strategy for booze and food. I'll feed you guys something delicious. I'm a wine feller, so I'm asking CEE TEE for spirit advice. I'll pick up some scotch and beer.

That sounds great.

Well, if you still have room for a humble little guy to come by (I promise I won't bring my crazy heavy and super big vintage receiver!), I'll bring the following:

Hifiman HE-560 (modded, but not Jerg's mod)

And as far as high-end DAC, I can bring...

Neko Audio D100 Mk.II
Sonic Frontiers TransDAC

Edit: and if not, at least I can drop off the Neko Audio for CEE TEE to carry up there. I think it's worth checking out.

Perfect! Thanks! :D

Let's see if the mods I performed on the HE-560 don't bring it closer to the Abyss than Marv's impressions let on.

I can bring my unmodded HD800, the Beyerdynamic DT-1350, my Project Sunrise Amp and Headroom Desktop "pimped out" amp and my Wadia 581se. The transports out, but the DAC works just fine. I could bring the Gungnir, if needed. Or I can just bring some beer and the HD800. Let me know. No ego here. Sounds like we have plenty of gear.

Edit: I can bring my trusty HD 650, with a small crack in the headband.

Ringingears, I'd be interested in hearing that Wadia.  IIRC, supposed to have a warmer sig conducive to HD800 pairing?

I'll being some extra batteries. AA's??

Re: The Wadia has 3 settings that changes the sound sig. I think it does match well with the HD 800. Curious to see what all of you think. It looks idiotic with the transport door open, but that's how things go.

What are we using as sources? My computer has some redirect/ pop up virus so all I have is a Creek Destiny CDP which I'm using coax out into the Wadia, and two thumb drives with HDTRACKS hi-Rez files. Hopefully I can get this damn virus out tomorrow. Worked on it for a couple of hours. This one is bugger.

My phone (either the iPhone 6 Plus or one of my other Android devices), and a certain Sony XB950BT (wireless bluetooth headphone) that's been acoustically modified to not sound so bad.

Only if you can. Don't want to overburden you. Would absolutely LOVE to have them. It would really make a good pairing for comparing the various flagships.

It might also convince me to buy a Rag...

Great. PM'ed you for the location, Zero.

I don't think I'll be able to bring food (more like I don't know what to bring!), but I'd be happy to run errands if we just happen to miss bread and the likes.

Will bring my own extra outlet extensions to help mitigate the need for extra outlets... at least for my gears. My outlet also comes with its own USB ports so if anyone would like to charge their phones/devices, please feel free to.

Extra gear stuffs I didn't mention:

Headphone: Sony XB950BT (wireless bluetooth headphone) <- modded, and quite possibly the best bluetooth or wireless headphone I have ever heard.

Amp: my own DIY amp for use specifically with my HE-560. It uses op-amps and op-amp buffers because I'm a lazy ass, and I plan on converting it into a portable battery-powered amp one of these days... once I have enough time to sit down and figure the power supply section out. Scales relatively okay-ish to my ears, but may not sound all that special.

DAC: AMB Gamma2 + Schiit Wyrd <- must-hear combo, if for nothing but that I find it interesting, and will be interesting competition to the Modi 2 Uber if Modi 2U gets there on time.

Bill, you can bring some durian fruit. Questhate and ZeroD love it!

Would love to. Though the raw thing has spikes that can seriously kill someone (or someone's gears), and the smell would probably stick to all of the gears in attendance for a while to come... especially when those partaking in the unholy task of tasting the fruit will have their hands covered in the stuff.

Then again, I can see how the taste will make up for all of that.

My wife says no one with durian is allowed within 25 feet of the house.

She also said bathing is not optional and must occur at least once between now and Saturday morning for me and everyone else.

Post by: Bill-p on December 24, 2014, 10:02:28 PM
Oh, that's good to know. Lucky... as I'm only 30 hours away from purchasing one of them.

Anyway, bathing is done, too. Though I suspect it needs to occur once every day before Saturday since I was within 300 miles radius of a durian...

If you want you guys can bring some CD's. I'm bringing my Creek Destiny CDP. Has coaxial and Toslink outputs. Will use it as a transport.  And the Wadia only has coax and Toslink inputs.

I know, so 20th century. But those cd's back then weren't compressed to shit. Re-mastering. Great idea!

CEE TEE- if you want to listen to the Wadia with a different source than mine, it will need a coax or Toslink out. It doesn't have USB inputs. Redundant I know.

If the Ciunas Converter gets delivered today, I'll bring it, and then we'll have a USB -> SPDIF converter.

If not, my AMB Gamma2 can also act as a USB -> SPDIF converter, though I suspect it's less than ideal for that.

Will try to bring some CDs, though the vast majority of my music are ripped into my computer for easier transport. :)

Just installed a new D.O.T. calibrated sensor and a  fresh set of batteries. I think we should have a breathalyzer shoot out! See which unit matches the subjective opinion of the user with the readings of their BAC. I'd also like to take note or collect data of any change in the grain heard by the listener plotted against their average BAC using a modified CSD plot.

Macallan 12, Oban 14, craft beers from CEE TEE and Ringingears, all the flagships you can think of (minus jades, floats, and omegas) and several unreleased products! Sounds like a solid mini meet to me!!!!
