Title: Future Sonics MG5pro
Post by: Kunlun on July 25, 2014, 03:21:25 AM
I thought I'd make a thread here for the FS MG5pro, which is a pretty nice dynamic driver CIEM for $750.

Here's my review over on HF:

Pirates are always welcome to stop by and post.

And here's a little review Tom Pesa (a pro audio engineer who's done the sound for the Super Bowl, Grammy Awards and The Academy Awards) posted on the FS facebook page, addressing Marty Garcia, the owner of Future Sonics, directly:

Thanks, Marty and FS! My opinion is now firm that the mg5pro is my new "go to" set of ears to not only make mixes but listen to in general. After two major shows and over twenty acts ranging from country, rock, pop, latin and R&B I can only say these are amazingly smooth. Beautiful low end and a smooth representation all the way up to the high shimmer. Every nuance is there of what I'm listening to, acoustic or electronic. I have been wearing them for long 16 hour days of soundchecks, dress rehearsals and shows and my ears never get fatigued. Throw in some long travel days of personal music listening, too. Well done! Still loving the mg6's, but, wow, you hit these out of the park.

I wrote to you on HF just a few seconds ago but I'll see which you answer first.

How does the MG5 compare to the K10?  I've been wondering about the K10 but the MG5 seem to have peaked my interest too now.

Interesting Kunlun, The MG6 is my friend's choice of IEM and he prioritises an organic and coherent sound which as I have found from my brief flings with JH and Fitear IEMs, much harder to achieve then I thought. Wish I could try my friend's pair but our ears really don't match, another friend heard them as well and came away impressed, he is getting his soon.

Thanks for chiming in, firev1. Yeah, I think a dynamic drivers can really give a natural sound and the ways that multi armature and multi crossover designs sometimes don't sound as natural have been glossed over in the hype that often surrounds them.

The MG6pro and MG5pro have different tunings and different vent systems, as well as different drivers. I'll do a comparison of these after I compare the jh16fp with the MG5pro. I've really been surprised that on a binaural recording of Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, the the MG5pro gives more detail in the bass (timpani, etc.) than high end armature CIEMs.
