CEETEE scouted some rooms this past Sunday.
We have reserved Salon 1 to 4. Rooms 1 and 4 are 25x28 ft. Rooms 2 and 3 are 25x35. Our intention is to not crowd the rooms and leave plenty of space. There is a vent at the end of each room which can be somewhat loud. But headphones, even open air headphones, should provide some isolation. There will be noise from conversations too, so not too worried. We will avoid putting a table near that spot.
CEETEE has also provided a tentative room layout (assuming the Hotel has the appropriate sized tables.)
-
A couple of people and vendors have stepped up for significant donations:
H3 Leftover: $150
Ship: $100
JoeAudio: $100
Anonymous: $50
Anonymous: $80
Anonymous: $100
Total costs are expected to be a little under $1500 after gratuity and taxation. I'm willing to put in $500 to cover any underage, so I'd say we are set to go, or maybe even add another room!

wasn't this supposed to be a private mini meet of sorts guy?!

REALLY looks like the food/drink options will be NICE. :)p5
-
Should we book rooms now, or will there be a "group rate" coming along? I'm cheap, and can sleep in my van, but others might want a bed. :)p13 My first Head-Chang meet. Excited to attend. Actually my first meet. Be patient with me, I have no idea how this works.

Finally downloaded the pics of the location:

Where is the pitcture of the bar?

I hope you guys will include the DT48S. Even if it won't be much of a pleasure I am curious to what your impressions are...

First picture, man. You're gettin' used to pubs, eh?
Just kidding. The bar looks out those windows and I wanted to have a drink but none of you were there yet so...

If you like I'll bring them up. I've been too caught up w/ work and renovations to even listen to them yet. Hoping to tonight.

GS-1000 and Beyer 1350's are sold, I've got nothing good to bring now... :)p8

^Ask purrin if you can walk around with his white Beats.
-
Hey all,
I just notified Purrin and Analixus that we won't be able to make the show.
The reason? A production engineering problem that demands all-hands input (me, Mike and Dave) now, if we want to make our commitments. It just showed this afternoon, and we are all still at the office. So, unless there is a minor miracle before the sun rises, I don't think we'll be in shape to pack up gear, headphones, computers, banners, etc and drive up.
Please accept our regrets and deepest apologies.
All the best,
Jason
-
We are doing our best to get some new Schiit up there despite it all.
-
Good luck on the problem, Jason. Sorry you won't be able to make the trip.
Looking forward to impressions and pictures and such from the meet. Wish I could be there with you guys.

Oh man, I want a shirt! Have fun guys.
-
+1 on the shirt!...I hope everyone had a great time.
Pics are welcome!
-
Sorry we missed it! Though, after a long and sleepless weekend, it looks like we have a handle on things.
-
Man, these meets always fly by for me. A big thanks for putting this together, I had a blast talking to everyone.
-
Yes it was fun seeing the Chang gang all out in full force. We have an awesome group of guys here. It's a shame not everyone could be there.
A bit of back story on gogators:
While going through the roster list, we noticed that a user named macgig, who expressed interest in attending, ended up being gogators/nkkuma/faithmore, the same guy that's been leveraging the good faith of honest Head-Fi'ers for good deals on headphones and then flipping them for outrageous prices on eBay. So, we were all doing moral inventory and trying to decide what to do if/when he showed up -- deny him entry? call him out in front of everyone? simply let him hang out amidst the honest folks? take him to a vacant storage closet and beat the shit out of him?
We weren't exactly sure what was going to happen, but we did print him out a special name tag with a scarlet letter so that he had to wear his shame:

Other highlights for me
-These awesome shirts thanks to Anaxilus and Purrin(RD, I have yours):
-Anax's shirt says "Analmorticus" on it.
-When purrin, shipsupt and I were hanging out at the registration desk and a member checks in with his HD700 in hand. I say "oh nice. I've been wanting to audition those" (it's crazy how absent the HD700 is from these meets). He replies, "yeah, these are so awesome. They're spacious and they image so well. I know they get a bad rap..." all the while purrin is smirking says, "yeah, that's partially my fault". After an awkward moment, the guy admits, "well honestly, with some music they do make my head hurt." facepalm
-@shipsupt letting us hang out at his room until past midnight the night before even though he was jet-lagged from traveling all the way from the UK. Beers on us any time you're back in town.
-Post-meet dinner with the guys. Most of us were dead tired by then, but it was lots of fun. VERY good Afghan food too, thanks to Yelp.
I didn't listen to much gear at all, but some that I remember:
-Electra + ESP-950/modded Jades/Omega II -- Really stellar amp. These guys aren't joking when they say the ESP-950 almost sounds like a different headphone out of this amp. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, as I can see some folks thinking its a tad too lush, but for me it strikes a good balance between technicalities and euphony.
-After giving away my M-80, I've been wanting another set but have been waiting to hear the M-100 first. After some head time with the M-100, I'll be getting another M-80. It's way too bassy to be a versatile, all-arounder portable headphone, in my opinion. I had to double-check to make sure they weren't the Crossfade LP2's. Strangely, I heard it later on in the day at Larry's table and thought -- whoa, these don't sound too bad at all. Then realized it was plugged in to a Benchmark.
-Listened to Larry's 009's for a while. They are a technical marvel, but it takes a while for my brain to adjust to them. It's almost as if the decay is way too fast and ends up sounding a bit unnatural. I imagine I'd get used to the "Stax" sound after living with them for a while, but it's a bit jarring at first.
-Bought a pair of baby Stax from verber. I believe it's the original 001 (not MK2). Very pleasant presentation. Super smooth, and warm. The treble will probably not satisfy most people though (myself included perhaps), and there's a bit of bloom/veil. But it's a nice compliment to the hyper-detailed UERM.
-Craig was running an LCD2 out of his DIY amp, which isn't anything special (especially compared to the rest of his lineup). But for ~$100 for completed build, it's a no-brainer to buy one. It was in a cool minimal case with the Eddie Current logo embossed on top, which he said he's not offering (I asked if cases were included, and he said "hell, just put the thing in a pie plate"). I'm hoping we can generate enough interest to do a small group-buy for them.
-
Do you have an extra shirt I could have by any chance?

Gogators arrives at the meet: (shipsupt, please add or correct anything that needs correction)
Gogators shows up and sneaks past the registration desk when he arrived at the meet. I followed him and ask if he wanted to check in at the front, and he said "oh, I'm not a Head-Fi member, my friend told me I could show up". At this point, I didn't know if he was Gogators or not.
Apparently CEE TEE recognized him while he was walking around the meet, and yanks him out of the listening room. He brought him to the front desk and asks him, "hey, where is your name tag?"
Gogators: "Oh, I don't have a name tag. I'm not on Head-Fi."
CEE TEE: "You sure about that? I think we printed out a name tag for you"
*CEE TEE then pulls out this tag and slaps it on Gogator's chest*
(http://i48.tinypic.com/1zb6nu1.jpg)
Gogators: *nervous* Oh, umm you have me confused. This is not me.
CEE TEE: You sure about that? You're not <gogators's real name>? You're telling me you're not that guy that I saw drop off headphones at rhythmdevils's house that one time??
Gogators: Umm... uh... I don't like this anymore! *rips off name tag and storms out*
We all thought it was extra special that CEE TEE was the one who kicked him out, because anyone who has met CEE TEE will agree that he is THE friendliest, most cheerful and bubbly dude you will ever meet.

I'm reading Quest's post in the voice of Charlie Murphy, and adding comedic violence where imagination requires it.
-
Funny because I wrote it in the Charlie Murphy voice.
Almost embellished and said shipsupt picked gogators up by his feet and dangled him off the balcony while CEE TEE interrogated him, but I figure we'll let the legend grow naturally.
-
Thanks to everyone for being incredibly kind to someone who was new. I'm really impressed with how well everything was put together and how open/friendly everyone was.
And no thanks to purrin because I've already opened up my new (to me) KGSSHV to figure out how difficult it would be to replace the stax jack because of him.
I'll be in on the group buy for Craig's DIY amp if you guys get one together. I didn't check out the measurements, but (for those who are local) we could probably salvage some old chassis from HSC or Weird Stuff on the cheap that would fit.
-
That was great Quest. Count me in for a Darkstar.

LOL!!! Dammit!! Now I just have to re-read it like that!!!!

You've got it! :)p7 I was so impressed that CEE TEE did it all with class and a smile. I stood by in my best sergeant at arms pose, but in the end I just got to watch the show! :boom:
After dragging him out to the registration desk he demanded that he put on his name tag. He grilled him hard including "Are you telling me you're not the guy who is buying gear and flipping it?" It was perfect because this meet was about enthusiast enjoying the hobby, not a lurker trying to make a buck off of us.

Just wanted to thank everyone that planned the meet. One of the best times I have had in a while. Really enjoyed meeting everyone and spending the day listening to some of the best gear around. Meeting and sitting next to the folks from Eddie Current was a real pleasure as was listening to the Electra (at rather loud volume levels :)p8). Really made the ESP950's shine!
Sorry I missed the fun with gogaters. :)p3 Karma does have a way of getting you in the end. :spank: walk the plank2

I get the feeling that CEETEE, Quest, Anax, Ship, and I, etc. aren't fully retired from organizing meets yet. I'm mulling a SoCal CHANG meet in the summer. Maybe the Bay Area in 2014 if we can secure this same location again.
I'd really like smaller meets instead. Maybe have them strictly be CHANG-Meets without mention on HF to limit the size.
-
Count me in for 2014. Also the Chang-Meets idea sounds good.
-
In for 2014 (probably) and possible for Chang only summer. Just need to know the date and location ASAP.

Very much looking forward to that.

Nice to chat with you in person, Ravi. Congrats on the new rig. headbang
Thanks, Marvin! I was super impressed with how well organized the event was. We have events teams at work who would not have pulled everything off as smoothly as you did.
I'm actually a little glad I had to leave early. There was a strong chance I would have ordered UERMs and Mad Dogs if I had been there all day. The AMB table made me miss my beta 22 as well.

Don't let a little thing like not still being there in person stand in your way. :)p17

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to cool it for a bit after the SR-007 purchase headbang

I am so disappointed I couldn't make this meet. The pictures and the posts make me so envious. Next year for sure.
