Hi folks,
just a short heads-up, that on September 26th and 27th, the third CanJam Europe (http://www.canjam.de/) will be happening in Essen, Germany. It'll be huge, 90 brands have already signed up and it's expected to grow to 100.
CanJam Europe is not affiliated with head-fi and is organized by my gorgeous, amazing wife (so I'm kinda biased here..).
CanJam Europe combines the variety of a headphone show with the vibe of a community meet. There's a dedicated area for community members and if you sign up as a community member (more on that later) you get a wristband identifying you as a community member to other members as well as exhibitors. If you so like. And now for the best part: I've talked to the boss and if you have at least 50 posts on changstar and sign up via this thread, you get a free two-day pass for the show, worth EUR 10. You'll need two days to see and hear everything, promised.
Current and constantly updated list of exhibitors and brands here (http://www.canjam.de/expo/brands-and-exhibitors-2015/), nice report about last year's event at headfonia (http://www.headfonia.com/canjam-europe-2014-picture-report/).
Questions? Ask away!

That's awesome! I didn't even know about the existence of this event last year! There was zero mention of this on Head-Fi.ORG
-
... And there won't be. Not for lack of trying though.
-
Had the chance of meeting with Juliane during this year's Munich high end show and together with Sebastian they are doing a great job!
-
Looking forward to it. Too bad I don't have 50 posts ;D
-
I honestly have very little to do with organizing CJE, other than promoting it where-ever I can and making sure that she has dinner on the table when she gets home. :)
-
Awesome Sebastian!!! ahoy
-
Where did that big-ass announcement on the homepage come from all of a sudden? Thanks guys!
If there's anything we can do to promote you, let me know. We could have a (real-world) Changstar banner at the show for example, if such a thing exists.

CanJam Europe is obviously a big event and worthy news. It would be a disservice to our European members and lurkers if they were not made aware of this event. Also, without getting into it too deeply, we don't feel the headphone hobby is a zero-sum-game. We believe in making the pie bigger so everyone gets share instead of grabbing as much as the existing pie as possible.
We also don't believe in pay-to-play.
This USA politician did it

and he's now in jail.

I did try a couple of times but it got deleted immediately. I understand but at the same time I don't think it's right to control what information your readers get. Ah well

100 brands, you better take your time :) I hope I manage to cover them all during the weekend

Are you sending the passes this year?

Are you sending the passes this year?
I'm not sure if I'll be receiving entry tickets to pass out to community members. Seb can maybe tell us more about that.
-
Yes, our friends at HFN will have tickets for their community. :)
Just like the community here and at hifi-forum.de.
I'll be sending out digital voucher codes in due time.

Really appreciate the openness here.

Soooooo, anybody coming? I have free candy... errrrr... I mean tickets.
We're already at more than 100 brands (http://www.canjam.de/expo/brands-and-exhibitors-2015/) and there'll be even more in the next days, it'll be insane.
-
And I have free tickets as well. If you want one, get in touch with me here or over at HFN! :)p6

Nooooo, ask me, ask me. :)

Nooooo, ask me, ask me. :)
As long as they come and have a good time, that's most important :)

I wonder it will be planned next year also and what about members area? How to get there?
-
I can already tell you that there will be another show next year. The community area really depends on... well... the community. We had approx. 100 sqm set aside for the community at the first two shows, but the area was empty for most of the time. Not for lack of community members attending, but because everybody was so busy checking out the show, trying out gear and talking to manufacturers and distributors. This year's community area will probably be more low-key, as in reserved tables for the community in the cafeteria, and we'll take it from there depending on feedback.
-
I think you should bring it to America.
-
lol, now there's an idea. I haven't been to Bozeman for more than 20 years, do you have a big enough event location that we could rent?
Seriously though, I've never been to a US CanJam - and my wife just attended the London one - how does the community thing work there?
-
what about members area? How to get there?
You mean access to the community area? At the registration desk of CJE, you tell the folks you're community (carrying gear certainly helps) and if you want, you get a special badge (voluntarily of course) so that other community members as well as exhibitors recognize you.
-
You might as well wear a shirt that says: "Disciple of the KSC-75 order, because Koss"
Add the KSC-75 to your attire and you testify that budget-fi is worthy of a cult.
P.S. Seriously though, I am too silly for that. The meaning of life is about finding fish.

It sometimes feels like I'm dancing with my-seh-elf (and Deep Funk, I guess), but here's another update:
CanJam 2015's lecture and workshop programme (http://www.canjam.de/program/) is online. There'll be more than 110 brands (http://www.canjam.de/expo/brands-and-exhibitors-2015/) at the show.
Any pyrates coming? There'll be about 30 people from German hifi-forum.de and a whole bunch of headphone geeks from other places to hang out with.
-
Turns out I'll be there! See you soon.
-
Awesome! Meet me at the HEADSOUND booth.
-
Give us a show report and some pictures!
-
Ok then, I will take the full size DSLR. :)
I forgot to say - I am very happy to take any good Essen pubs references. Going to meet two friends and it's bound to end up in a lengthy and thirsty conversation the evening before CanJam. The hotel is in town centre, but we're not bothered with some distance.
-
Sincerely , it's THE event we european should be there.. I'm ashamed to have not think to plan that before.
Next year probably.
-
I am very happy to take any good Essen pubs references.
I'm not an Essen local, but "The Rü" (Rüttenscheider Straße) has about 100 bars and restaurants, from coffeeshops to upscale burger joints. And it's close to CanJam Europe's location. Here's (http://www.derwesten.de/staedte/essen/szene/die-rue-im-essener-kneipenviertel-pulsiert-das-leben-id6454751.html) a nice article about The Rü. It's in German, but Google Translate ought to work.
Also, last year, a few people met at Grugapark Biergarten on Friday before CJE started.
-
Guess who's not coming to CJE this year, goddessdamnitsomuch! Urgent and rather sudden family business is keeping me in Berlin while Juliane's already on the Autobahn westbound.
I second the motion for extensive picture reports. Have fun, everybody who's attending. See ya at CJE16 then.
-
I'd like to come, but now it's too late to find a cheap flight :( maybe for the next year
Go pirates! Have fun for me too :)p7

I'll of course be doing a full Canjam report as usual. Too bad we won't get to have fun this year but family goes first.
I'll be there both days, I'm the guy wearing the HFN shirt. Do say hello if you spot me, I usually don't bite. :)p14
-
Don't forget to exchange shirts with Juliane, she's bringing yours.

Oh, that's really sad.
