Title: Good online retailer for original CD releases (hi DR)
Post by: lm4der on May 12, 2015, 12:22:38 AM
Sadly, I own a bunch of heavy metal remasters, like Queensryche Empire, their debut EP, Rush albums, etc, with awful compressed dynamic range.  Looking at the dynamic range DB, the original releases of these are a lot better.  I want to find an online retailer that carries this sort thing.  Any recommendations?  I could cherry pick them off of eBay, but I would prefer to find a single merchant for one stop shopping.

For specific release versions it's tough to beat Discogs http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?format=CD

Definitely Discogs, especially if you're looking for rare, highly sought after CDs like Japanese Black Triangles or Toys Factories.

Honestly, I tend to find eBay the best place to source these. Usually if I find one disc I want, I can find 3-4 more (and usually discover a new artist or two) in the sellers other items for sale.

For the type of heavy metal discs you're after, it's not uncommon to find a seller liquidating their discs fairly cheap.

As an alternative, I also use gohastings. You never know what you're getting in terms of condition (and sometimes they send the wrong print...I've gotten the "Rust in Peace" remaster 3 times from them!), but usually CD's can be had for under $2 apiece and they offer massive discounts on top of that frequently (buy 2 get 1, 40% off, etc) A couple times a year, I order 100 at a time.

hello,

i've had good luck finding o.o.p. stuff on half.com. and usually for reasonable prices.

although it is more of an aggregator than a single source.

but then so is Discogs

Ebay and Amazon but you need to know exactly what you're looking for.
