"Dear Head-Fiers,
Yesterday, our swap trailer at IFA 2015 in Berlin was broken into and among the things that were stolen was a set of the Orpheus. We are still accounting for what was taken and will post the serial numbers as soon as possible.
We ask that all Head-Fiers to let us know if they have been offered such a high-end product by anyone.
We'll post updates as more information becomes available and we thank you for whatever help you can offer.
The Sennheiser Team"
Good Riddance I dare say. Shame on Sennheiser for having to show off that old pile of crap poo over and over again.
And it ain't as Sennheiser claims "Ze best headphone in ze world". Probably never was!
Time to move on and develop something new as this over-priced bulky boring dusty old museum-piece-thingy hasn't been cutting edge for a long time.
They should really put it were it belongs! Into a museum on a marble pedestal!! Oh hang on - they have done that already ... [thanks Thad]
It even looks like it has been designed last century by a bunch of german "Professors" who take themselves and their creation too seriously. LOL
:wheel:
That's not to say that I condone theft even in case you need an anchor for your boat! - so pyrates stop taking away my brownie points! Dammit! LOL
Feeling sarcastic today!

.
Didn't they go one better, and put it in a marble case?
-
Thad, I think that's the amp. Maybe they will ditch the marble and use Corian but that's seriously OT.
-
Wow, regardless of the high price for the Orpheus, that is some seriously bad karma. I dislike companies, but wouldn't wish this on any of them. Hope the unit gets recovered...
-
Regardless of what one may think of Sennheiser or the Orpheus, theft ain't cool man. I hope they recover it.

What! You mean the new headphones aren't marble too? p:0
I'm off to the What happened to Sennheiser thead.
But sure, Chris is right: theft is not cool. Good security is cool: I wonder why they didn't take better care of it? But hey, I haven't read the story

Many things in this world are crap when you think about it. Thing is sometimes things are craptastic and they transcend crappy and people consider them the unobtanium of crap, the crap of all crap that highlights how crap everything else once was. The monuments of craptasticness are like the old Eiffel Tower versus the current sky scrapers.
Sometimes you have to appreciate old crap to understand the freshness of new crap. Sometimes new crap is craptastic or a crapocalyptic. I dare to say that your crap lacks form and craptasticness. Indeed I find your post crapocalyptic.
You have much to learn about crap.

I am one of those who felt the Orpheus was certainly overhyped and overpriced by todays market rates, but it was easily in the top 10 headphones ever made and I really appreciated Axel Grell and Sennheiser bringing it to CES and other functions. Many people got to hear it that never would have otherwise. If this event means Sennheiser no longer brings the Orpheus or it's new phone to such events, it'll be a real unfortunate incident for the entire audio community.

Were any other trailers broken into, or was Sennheiser specifically targeted?
-

Wondering if they broke into it expecting to find the new marble version, but took this instead when the other wasn't found.
-
That's horrible and a huge loss for folks visiting future CES or various shows where Senn would bring it.
That being said, why is HF the public repository for "Welp! My shit has been ripped off"? It kind of gets old after a while.

I bet they were specifically targeted. Companies and individuals need to be careful about Internet social media. There are obvious immense upsides, but also downsides. I work in content security in the movie business. Internet social media scares us. Criminals use information from social media to development friendships and develop insider tracks to conduct criminal activity once inside. Most often, it's stupidity on the part of individuals: "Hey! Ain't I cool! I'm working on the VFX for the new Star Wars movie!" (Instagram of Mark Hamill in costume on monitor behind the person posting).
-
I think they were targeted by professional thieves, by someone who wanted to acquire some equipment what is not possible to get otherwise. I think it will not come out, it will travel to some poo hole audiophile home and will be never seen in public again. Great loss for fans, because i do not think Sennheiser have more of them to put on the show.
-
Stolen to order? Like art works that could never be sold on open market. Sounds quite likely.

It has a huge audience, I suppose.
Similarly, studio rip offs get featured on gearslutz. It gets the audience of people who might be offered that sort of stuff.

90% of those heists are insider jobs. I am sure those guys behind robbing Audeze also knew somebody there.
:boom:
I had the chance to listen to the Orpheus twice now - but prefer to listen to things that are are alive and still available.
-
So what was then?
The only thing comparable at the time was the Stax SR-Omega

Sorry to say but the Orpheus was a phenomenal headphone (+amp) at the day and still is quite sweet sounding even today. Had the chance of listening to Dr. Burkhardt Schwabe's pair (one of the original designers) against one of his amps paired with the HD800 and while the old Orpheus did not present the ultimate detail retrieval it was amazing on voices and piano. I would pick it over pretty much everything made these days for jazz and acoustic music (would prefer 800 for big scale classic). Of course price is inflated due to limited run, this does not mean it is not one of the greatest ever.
Pity it was stolen..

You might want to check your post, and edit the quote, which is not mine, so as to attribute it to the right person

This frames the thread more like the confession of a guilty conscience...
-
I'd be very quiet listening to the Orpheus right now.
So - no - it wasn't me. :)p13
Not anywhere near Germany … Mr. Observant!

Aufmerksam, you can catch him on the Shaggy defence. His sarcasm was crapocalyptic so you should be able to flush this one away.

Will Jude be a playable character in the game?
I hope one of the missions would be jude teaming up with synergistic research for a head-fi tv episode!
now that would be A REAL heist!

We also need a soundtrack. Something like this should suffice.
