I know people have asked me in the past about the symbolism of the Jolly Roger, and I just sort of shook it off. Well, now I will reveal everything:
- The EF/CS Jolly Roger (not to be confused with yummy Jolly Ranchers) is based on that of the infamous pyrate Blackbeard or Edward Teach.
- The "anatomy" (the skeleton) is wearing headphones, for obvious reasons.
- The anatomy is toasting the devil - reflecting our nothing to lose attitude because we are all going to end up dead sooner or later.
- The spear is breaking a piece of stone based on a logo very similar to this (http://audiofest.net/2012/images/headfi_logo_350.png). Although the stone has been smashed to pieces, one can still make out, upon closer examination, the left headphone cup and a portion of the headband of the original logo.
- The anatomy can also be seen as a rhythm devil, in homage to an infamous trouble-maker on HF.
- The spear can also be taken as a reference to nasty treble peaks and ringing found in many headphones.
- The EF/CS Jolly Roger (and the symbolism) behind it was the very first thing designed for this place. Yes, there was a good amount of thought put into how this place was going to be like. The flavor of this place is definitely not random or by accident.

What does the spear mean, Purrin?
-
forgot to mention that - answered.

I think I get it now.

So you're telling me that it has nothing to with an angsty (Aarrr!) longing for "coitus" with the mother forum whilst the rough and abusive father forum is busy talking about cycling, bacon and travel bags?

My Sigmund senses were tingling, that's all.

Freud personally tickled you? Did he use a feather or a pointy stick?
-
If this place be for pirates? Then where be the ninjas? (and in the grand tradition of the internet, I suppose the robots and cowboys have their own place as well, but we don't talk about them)
-
Thanks for the explanation. I recognized Blackbeard's Jolly Roger flag's influence, but couldn't for the life of me figure out wtfbbq he was spearing.

A feathery trident!

If the spear means the treble peaks and ringing, does that mean...
<Insert brand> is killing the brand on the stone?
