For a second I thought someone had gone off the deep end and was trying to segregate Euro pyrates.

Did you think to someone in particular ?

Admin. He's a shifty guy. Never met him in person.

Shifty as in gearbox? Segregation as in neutral, 1 to X and reverse?
If you want European segragation the EU is already doing it to itself through its inherent indecisiveness in matters like financial control and regulation, immigration, illegal immigrants and less than transparent trade agreements.

UK based here.

Nick, you are the Vice President of the Chennai chapter of CS.
-
Both me and Chris1967 come from Athens, Greece. We have had a headphone meet last year which was a nice success and got coverage from a couple of sites as well (Part Time Audiophile and Mono&Stereo), though obviously not connected to CS (hosted by local audio forum)
I am a friend of the guys (actually a girl, Juliane) who runs the Essen event, they are trying hard to make it better every year. Promised I would visit them but doubt I will make it in the end. Maybe next year..

Mr President, sir... Yes. Inevitably, as there are only two of us!
Pity we can't attract some more, but I have rather lost touch with Chennai audiophiles since I moved away from a certain forum for certain reasons.
Sorry to be several thousand miles off-topic :-[ :-[

Hi Niko, found a replacement DAC to your taste ?

Hi Niko, found a replacement DAC to your taste ?
Hi Bat!
Like i said, the Theta Gen Va was the best dac i have ever had, i hope it is still going strong!
But i had bad economical situation, studying etc. so the Theta had to go.
But things are better now, and it looks like (for the price) the Yggdrasil and Gungnir (MB) are very hard to beat...
I think the price/performance are great in those dacs, but i have never heard either one, so i just have to trust the reviews :)
Have you heard the Yggdrasil yourself? What you think about it?
Best regards,
Niko

I haven't heard the Yggy myself (not many in EU yet), but Negura had both Gen VA and Yggy at one point. Then he got a MSB Analog, and he prefered to keep the theta instead of the Yggy. Some things are done better by Yggy according to him, but for a few others theta still has the edge. Ultimately he sold the theta though. I'm sure Yggy and Gumby are good, but that much better than your gen VA (actually mine now ;) ) ? Not sure.
-
Myself and Marv totally disagree about the Theta vs. Yggy. We prefer the Yggy by a rather significant margin in pretty 90% of the things that matter to us.
However, we prefer using transports versus streaming.
If you like a warmer thicker signature over better technicalities like resolution and imaging precision, the Theta is the one for you.
-
Only way to know is to try. Niko knows that.
I'm ready to try when possible with that unobtainium spinners, next time I pass by LA :)p5

You're always welcome!

You're always welcome!
Might take a while but I'll get around there at some point, on my way to S. America. ;)

I happen to be the husband of said girl. Hello Panagiotis! :)
Just like Juliane, I'm obviously (?) from Germany.
Next CanJam Europe is up in four weeks btw, I'll have a separate post about that tomorrow.

A few years ago it all started with small HF-meet in Berlin which led to an audio store sponsoring it all. On a small patch in Berlin tubes, solid states, a K1000 & system all came together. From a start-up then to now you actively contribute to the European CanJam event.
You made some big leaps.

Gosh, that's quit flattering, thank you. I was honored to have you at the Berlin meet, and I still feel bad about the screw-up with your arrival.
My role in CanJam Europe is absolutely minor, that's all Juliane's amazing work (with a little help from her team). I couldn't have set up an event like that, CJE15 will probably have 100 (ONE! HUNDRED!) personal audio brands exhibiting.
-
I am sure the team can keep the hobbyist spirit alive.
I had fun in Berlin. An amazing city that you miss after you leave and no I cannot explain why.
-
this German Canjam is a great achievement. Kudos to Juliane and the team. ;)

Hey Sebastian, did not know you were here on CS! All the best for the upcoming meet, let me know if I can be of any help. Give my regards to Juliane

I am in the black Forest, Germany...

Well, I'm new around these parts. But it does feel like coming home, forgive the lofty words.
Juliane says hi, she returned from London last night.
EDIT: Oh, and there's two ways in which you could help:
1) Spread the gospel about the event via your channels
2) Check out the exhibitors' list (http://www.canjam.de/expo/brands-and-exhibitors-2015/) and let us know if you feel like anybody's missing, Greek or not.

LIst Updated.
Didn't see Head-fi as a partner of the canjam.de. I thought "canjam" was a Head-fi exclusive name ?

Thks Marvey.
Then Building a Changstar Private meet in Europ in the same date range than European Canjam could be a good idea .We could mix something CS only and then go together to CJ Europ. What do you think guys?
For me Private meetings and Canjam are different things. in a private meet we have more time to chat and see people and that"s always more interesting that the gear itself. Moreover we often benefit from better conditions of listenings for the gear everyone bring. With Negura we talked about the Munich Hi End as well and I know Donald North was there for Riva but Canjam would probably be a better opportunity.
Maybe some US people who be glad to come in Europ for the meet & Canjam and some holidays in Old Europ :money: . Didn"t see Schiit , Eddie Current , DNA and other well regarded American Brands at Canjam Europ :)p8

In Europe the V.A.T. and aftermath of the financial crisis with the added EU/Greek crisis is still affecting many wallets. In the Netherlands V.A.T. is 21 percent. When my income was higher I avoided the audio stores as via trade and private sales you could get better gear for less money.
The retail market for audio is pretty fucked up depending on which part of Europe you live. That means you either have a high income and you do not worry, you work with a budget or you go DIY.
With non-European audio gear think of running the business, purchasing, import costs, valuta fluctuation and the fucking V.A.T. All this combined gives European audio hobbyists a bit of a disadvantage.
Thankfully the EU is sort of recovering...

No.
EDIT: I've set up a separate thread about CanJam Europe, check it out (http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,2771.0.html).
