They are like HF-2s with even moar bass. Actually not bad. Driver matching could be better.

Compare with HF2: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,156.0.html (http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,156.0.html)
- Again, quite a bit more bass than HF2. Maybe the driver has holes in the back poked out.
- Dip on left channel at 3.5kHz is not really a dip (the dip is a measurement anomaly). It's actually a peak (per CSD).
- PS500 seem to have less high-frequency ringing at 9k.
-
So it's just a shittier HF2. poo
-
LOL. It's not that bad. Less ringing at 9kHz, which is a trouble spot, than HF2. If anything, there is a little bit of hardness which can be attributed to the 5kHz peak (we've all seen this before.) The extra bass does balance out the hot lower treble. But yeah, the midbass permeates everything!
FWIW, the PS500 are the true baby PS1000.
-
Yeah still hot up there so not a good one to blast loud, but it's really not too bad for low level listening.
-
When you put the FR measurements next to each other it doesn't look as bad. The PS500's treble appears to be more elevated when you look at them seperately because of the dip in the left channel and the faster rise, but I guess it mostly just has more bass. And more even treble.

PS500 harmonic distortion.
With extra bass comes extra distortion. I wonder about the PS1000.

I own a PS500 and I like listening to it, but that has got to be one of the worst distortion measurements I've seen on this site :-00
-
It wasn't unexpected. The driver is just too small - and combined with an open-air / small baffle (which does require more bass power because of sound cancellation), the massive distortion is to be expected. I'll take HF2 measurements to compare.
At least the bass distortion doesn't permeate and pollute the midrange like the new Shures. Bad Shures!
-
Compare HF2 vs. PS500 distortion. LOL, with great bass comes great distortion. It makes sense why some of the early PS1000s were exploding. I'm surprised no one has exploded a PS500 driver yet.

My PS500 has come close to exploding on more than one occasion (I've already heard of a friend's MS Pro that 'sploded). The bass distortion worried me enough to just stop using them and switch to something else. I felt like the drivers were coming unhinged or something.

What is that? Like 90% distortion from 50hz on down?
I probably have songs that would destroy them at normal volumes...
