Magnum v4 Martin Audio Custom Woodies CSD Waterfall Plots
- Graph is 30db down not 40.
- Remarkable consistency between the drivers.
- The wood cup attachment makes for a lengthy cup - this is the cause of the ringing at 1-2k for this v4 custom.
- Has the classic upper-middle-ridge (see types of ringing explanations: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,71.0.html (http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,71.0.html))
Compare to the v2.5: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,45.msg143.html#msg143 (http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,45.msg143.html#msg143)

Sweet!
When you say "wood cup attachment", does that mean this is a full woody, or wood slip-on over the aluminum sleeves?
-
Wood slip on aluminum.

Wood slip on aluminum.
that's a cool idea. really love the wood finish as well. i think the slip on wood cups is the coolest idea i ever saw besides the yellow ducky earpads.

Any idea what causes the bumpy ridge near 2k that looks like power lines? Is that from that frequency bouncing around as it subsides, and the sound waves colliding and combining?
-
is there room in the enclosure around the driver? i never taken apart a grado before or ever listened to one before but if there is room along the walls around the driver maybe putting thin layer of fiberglass or wool along the walls around the driver might help a bit on absorbing the bouncing/standing waves of the driver? i don't know but maybe it'll work right? i'm just using my imagination here at the moment so i have no idea what i'm saying technically.

Grado 2kHz bump is always cups... Hence why I did the HP1000 mods.

You did some full wood (not slip on) measurements, right? Did it help with the 2k ridge, or did they need some help too?

Full wood doesn't help (it does help with the resonances higher up at 8kHz - the craptastic wood helps disburse the ringing.)
Only way to fix is to absorb using something like... Creatology Kids Foam!

Dude...WTF....you're giving away that uber-expensive Joe Grado mod for free?!?!? What kind of website is this?
You could be making money off of this!! See here: ;) ;D

I guess my FWJ#9 from Martin is a bargain then!
-
You do not happen to be able to provide the frequency response for the V4s?
-
Yeah - I can do that. Remind me via PM if I forget within a few days.
