DT990-600 Measurements
« on: March 11, 2013, 05:31:29 PM »

DT990-600 Measurements. Compare to DT990-250. Let's not even put the Tesla's in the some league. Driver matching with the classic Beyers always seems to be good.

Possibly Beyer's best "fun" sounding headphone IMO. It sounds good from the Vahalla.  :P

CSDs.

Not too shabby at all. Some minor ringing at 5k, which I feel is less offensive than ringing at 8kHz. The brightness is balanced by the mid-bass hump.
Compare to this Testicle technology based Beyer horror.

Wow, these "mid-level" Beyers of yesteryear continue to measure way better than the new Tesla stuff.

Harmonic Distortion

Very low 2nd order after the bass. 4th and 5th orders are rather high.

Very similar to the 250s, but this one seems to have a little bit less energy in the tremble (8k to 20k). Might partially explain what I've heard at T.H.E. Show (DT990-600 + Schiit Valhalla.) Could it be that the 600 ohms are less bright than the 250 ohms or would it be manufacturing variations. BTW, very good driver matching.

Still need to actually sell mine, but maybe I'll pop them on for a listen when I take pics of them.

I concur with regards to the Valhalla.

They did not seem particularly bright from what I heard at Newport this year. I think Schiit really knows which headphones sound good with their amps. Valhalla + DT990 seemed to be a very "fun" combo, great for demoing at a show.

The Schiit DT990 is the 600 ohm version measured here. Less bright than the Pro 250 for sure. The Vahalla does help too.

Couldn't agree more !

Had this headphone for over 10 years before one driver got intermittent occasionally (thought it was the cord/plug but turned out to be the driver itself).
Was able to fix it for a while though.
Replaced it with HD250-II and that one with HD650 ...'the quest' was 'on' since then.
