I never did post my impressions of the TH600 here. Slipped my mind.

I sold my TH900 and ZDSE as a set; right now I own the TH600. It's not quite as refined as the TH900 overall, and it falls behind in vibrancy and that sense of openness. It's sort of like a beverage that has lost a bit of its carbonation or coffee that has been sitting in the carafe for a while. Overall tho it still sounds quite good. Seems more even keeled compared to the TH900 too, with a bit less bass emphasis

More TH600 impressions from me are on head-fi somewhere.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

I got a chance to try these today at my local shop.  I like the look and feel of them much better than the TH900 (more understated). I also thought they were very comfortable, but I did find that the ear cups were kind of small.  They just barely fit over my ears.

I only got to listen to them for a couple of minutes through the ALO international and I thought they were pretty good.  I liked them better than when I tried the TH900, though at the time I was comparing the TH900 to the HD800. The openness and clarity of the TH600 surprised me and I really enjoyed the quality of the bass (good presence and body, more similar to the feeling of speakers).  They actually had me consider getting a closed phone to compliment the HD800.  I will have to go back and give them a more thorough test with my gear and source.  Its hard to get a feel for the sonic qualities with such a short audition, these were just my initial impressions.

I'm not sure what the going price is but these were marked at $1299, which seemed a bit steep to me.  I think closer to $1000 would be more reasonable.  At least for me, $700-$800 would be the magic number for the TH600 as a secondary set of phones.  Don't know if this info is out, but I hear that there may be a price drop on the TH900 coming soon.  Special pirate recommendation is to wait if you are considering them.  :)p2

The 600s seem to still be available from Rakuten for JPY 79,800, which is now less than USD 800 as a result of recent exchange rate movement.  Based on your impressions, the temptation is increasing.

Well at that price the TH600s are quite reasonable.  They would definitely have my attention at $800 if I wasn't directing all my funds at my HD800 rig. I would be somewhat concerned about ordering from overseas given the problems that some people have been having with the TH900 breaking as the design is basically the same.  I am not sure how repairs would be handled if you imported a pair.  They sure do look good though!  In person I preferred the look to the TH900.  Totally stealth.

I am going to take my rig into the store soon to try and get a better baseline of comparison.  I wanted to try the TH900 and HE-500 again anyway (maybe some of the beyer's as well).  I'll update my impression's after that.  I am trying to avoid reading what other people have to say so I don't bias my views.

Pricing is getting nuts, the market is definitely able to bear much higher priced cans than previously. Before Audeze was around, I bought my HD-800s used for $800.

I blame Grado just as much as Audez'e. The PS1000 was at $1700 and before that the GS1000 (along with the Denon D7000) was one of the first dynamics to hit the $1000 mark in years.
