Aha! Cool.  My impressions mirror Anax's fairly well then for the first rev.  The second one I found quite a bit better driving headphones directly. Both made for a good value as a line source I felt...the second slightly better IMHO.

(love this hobby)  I may need to grab a new one for comparison....I was happy to drop the DF to Mike for review because I appreciate his and Marv's unvarnished positions. No shock on his findings. I think the hype machines for any new breakthrough or FOTM device can deflect the focus away from the intended market. For a small cost you get a clear improvement from stock PC/Mac internal DACS's and can enter the world of higher quality sound (Higher than stock, not necessarily "HIGH" quality) For it to be outperformed by the UHA6S is to be expected, but the DF is 1/10th the size and does not require a battery recharge. Similar price , but structurally very different devices. Not necessarily better or worse as they were each designed for different markets and purposes.

If the DF can be the entry point for new hobbyists to get into HiFi, how cool is that?

Anyway, I am glad I have it...My CSP2+ and tube collection is NOT portable...(hmmm, car battery...Bigger pelican case...maybe??   :& )

If there is a better sounding and performing DF out there, I'm all for it.  Even as is, the dynamic signature is a fun listen especially for those that favor that over any sort of technical differences myself or anyone else might find.  Most people don't have highly resolving gear anyway, so might not be able to hear the differences.  But at least here, we can be honest about that divergent criteria rather than hide behind the typical BS of my random blurb and incoherent thought process is just as valid as everyone else so FU if you don't embrace my opinion as fact.

There has been a change since the first run and, to my ears, the second rev does quite a bit better driving headphones correctly.

LOL I can already imagine the number of calls AQ is gonna get (for replacements) after people read this  8)

I'm disappointed that AQ didn't notify customers of an improvement made after release. if there is a improved version, they might have called it DF+ (or 2.0, or something...)

I grabbed a Pico DAC to sit on my desk when I'm streaming etc... from the PC.  I have to say I'm liking it.  I'd like to see how it would stand up next to the mighty DragonFly?  Anyone see a comparison anywhere?

It makes for a nice compact office rig next to the SRS-002.

Anax, when did you get your DF?

There has been a change since the first run and, to my ears, the second rev does quite a bit better driving headphones correctly.

Sorry to drop this note of confusion in here, but it does seem to be quite a difference to me.

Also sorry I don't know the details, but it does have something to do with better power supply regulation and I think some shift in internal analog levels. Or something like that. Sorry I don't have more details.

That is interesting. Any way to tell the difference cosmetically?
