HE Audio Jade Modded (#2) FR + CSD Measurements.
« on: October 31, 2012, 07:18:54 PM »

These were the ones that people heard at H3. Yes. They are awesome. I know tehmom, CEETEE, and a few others thought they were spectacular out of the EC Electra.

The mods mainly address the 7-8k nasties on the stock pair. (It should be noted that the 7kHz dip on the stock measurement is actually a peak in disguise.)

It's amazing what intelligent modding can do to a headphone  :-DD

I only stole tried-and-true techniques used to linearize FR from 'stat speakers. The Orpheus pads which I am using help with comfort and soundstage too.

I promised not to post these until someone I knew was able to get his hands on them. But at this point, I don't think anyone is going to sell these anymore. The modded Jades are reminiscent of the HE90s. There is a reason why I don't have the 009s even though I can afford them.

Hopefully, if we can generator enough buzz, HiFiMan may figure out a way to bring them back. I'll post a petition on HF unless one of you guys do it on my behalf.

The build quality is abysmal though. My pair is held together with glue and screws.  I will eventually transplant the drivers to new cups of my own construction.

Maybe do a petition as well as try to get in touch with Fang Bian himself.

Already tried that. I did get an e-mail saying they were working on v2. But I believe v2. got cancelled.

It didn't help their cause that the Jade build quality was shit and the stock sound was rather strident.

That was years ago though, surely Hifiman has a better grasp at making a structurally sound headphone now.

Whoa. Great work, Marv. Pissed that I forgot to give these a listen at the meet. Hopefully we can convince you to haul this up to the big Bay Area meet  :)p7

For sure, the newest revision of the HE-400 is built pretty well.

The rev3 recalled revision issues are on the drivers and are sonic issues not "breakage" issues, I'm talking about structural integrity of the headphones (cup/yoke/headband etc) which seems to be the main issue that HE Jades have.
