I think quite a few of us have heard the universal demo.

Bassy, warmer than UERM, flat sounding, lack of dimensionality.  Failed ES5 comes to mind.

Yeah, no it's not recording dependent.  Transparent is not a word I'd use w/ the UE18.  However, I was told by UE during my last visit that the UE18 was designed to be used in conjunction w/ those portable packs they perform w/ at concerts.

Are the portable packs suppose to sound more neutral or something?

It's got some bass emphasis, think 11 trying to have some sparkle.  But unsuccessfully.  I wanted to like the 18, but after several attempts to get to know it I never connected as much with it as I did the 11 and the UERM.  I didn't dislike it as much as Anax, but it didn't do what I wanted.  I was hoping for an 11 with more detail, it never seemed to deliver.

Maybe we can get Cee Tee to pop in, he's got more recent experience with it.

Something...I thought it was an interesting comment, might have to prod and listen further sometime.
