Yahama YH-3 Harmonic Distortion Measurements

Looks like something got stuck in the left side. Maybe a hair.

Distortion is on part with today's mid-fi headphones. FR is far smoother.

Note: Graphs are say yh1, but they are yh3 measurements

Whoa. Good job, RD. Extremely even all the way to 8k. Clean CSDs too!

How does that dip sound with cymbals and whatnot?

No wonder you hate modern headphones. You've been spoiled.

It sounds pretty good, exactly like how it measures. It does not do the ultra-modern false clarity/definition thing. In fact, it does the opposite with the roll off around the 10k "definition" area. Nor does it say moar bass! Think of this headphone as the nemesis of the Beyer T1.

I believe they are modded.

They're highly modded.  I've worked on these bloody things on and off for the past 2 years.  Custom damping and I drilled all those holes in the back of the cups, and added the headband padding and tension support beams   I also made the YH1 open back.

Very cool to see the FR!  So the slightly grainy/rough sounding treble is actually just a lack of extension.  I tried sooooooo hard to get it smooth, but the only thing you can do is create a peak, the driver just won't put out more treble extension.

This is all fascinating.  Thanks Marv!!!

Yup I see all of the drilled holes. Probably why these sound so open.

What did you change to get the peak to turn into that large roll-off in the treble?
