I need help with a "bio". I have to send it to the organizers of T.H.E. SHOW since I will be part of the headphone discussion panel. Those who know me know that I really hate these things, tooting my own horn, etc. If I had a choice, it would be like this:

Crazy dude who because he can't stand the sound quality of the majority of current mid or high-fi headphones, made an effort to objectively show why - with meaningful measurement data. A weekend hack with absolutely ZERO"Hi-Fi" industry qualifications or credentials. He takes measurements of headphones to troll people who think Ultrasones don't cause hearing damage. The measurements of over forty some headphones that he has taken could totally be inaccurate, but you be the judge.

But I need something more serious. How does this sound?

Marv has been a headphone and Hi-Fi hobbyist for over twenty years. Being dissatisfied with the sound quality of many headphones and seeking to objectively demonstrate the reasons why, he has developed a method to obtain cumulative spectral decay (CSD) waterfall plots which minimize the effects of headphone cup and ear/head interactions (which he feels are filtered by the ear/brain apparatus.)

Marv graduated in with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Davis, where a significant part of his focus was with numerical analysis and visualization techniques. He currently works as an "ethical hacker" and is technology services practice leader at a west coast regional audit firm that specializes in financial institutions and their service providers.

Any ideas on which headphones I should pick on or highlight?

Grado and HD800 for sure.

How about:

Loosely translated ~

"Crazy dude who (x?) because he can't stand the sound quality of the majority of current mid or high-fi headphones, made an effort to objectively show why - with meaningful measurement data. A weekend hack with absolutely ZERO"Hi-Fi" industry qualifications or credentials. He takes measurements of headphones to troll people who think Ultrasones don't cause hearing damage. Other headphones?  I think you should do a compare/contrast between the DT880 600 and T1.  That would pretty much nail everything you need to get across in more ways than one.

I would also consider comparing the HD800 to a 007/009 or other planars to illustrate what technical advancement has yielded.  Also IEMs like the UERM if we can get that data fleshed out.

My version:

Mr. Chang has been a headphone and Hi-Fi hobbyist for over twenty years. A passionate music lover, he was constantly dissatisfied with the sound quality of many headphones and sought to objectively demonstrate the reasons why.

Mr. Chang has developed a proprietary method to obtain cumulative spectral decay (CSD) waterfall plots which minimize the effects of headphone cup and ear/head interactions (which he believes are filtered by the ear/brain apparatus.) in order to help the headphone community objectively understand poor sound quality and the reasons behind it.

Mr. Chang graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Davis. A significant part of his focus was with numerical analysis and visualization techniques. He currently works as an "ethical hacker" and is a technology services practice leader at a west coast regional audit firm that specializes in financial institutions and their service providers.

Nice resume material but drier than the mids on a JVC FX700.  :-\

Maybe you could randomly interject the word '[redickted]' in there somewhere.

Mr. Chang believes he has a great [redickted] and doesn't find the need to compensate by buying gear that is FOTM or gear that is expensive just for the sake of bragging.

Mr. Chang has developed what he calls the "Performance Engineered  Neural Instrumental System" for analyzing and documenting poor headphone performance.

LOL. You guys are so bad.

I don't how I'm going to keep an honest face and stop cracking up when I present the measurements of shitty headphones. I think Tyll had quite a bit fun when he talked about the Beats a year or two ago at the same or similar event. But it's easier to beat up on Beats than $700 Hi-Fi headphones.

BTW, you guys did help a lot. I hate writing those things because I focus more on a person's ability to execute than credentials. The Hi-Fi world seems to be the opposite.

I wonder if I still have a buy a ticket to the event.

Challenge accepted 8)

Perhaps it is no surprise that Marv Chang chose to apply his expertise in numerical analysis and visualization to the study of headphone audio. Each headphone is hooked up to a novel specialized rig that allows for the generation of cumulative spectral decay (CSD) waterfall plots, this spectral landscape allows Marv to correlate what he hears to an objective measurement. No headphone brand or price tier is safe from his ruthless review (nor is any [redickted]). In his alternate life he works as an "ethical hacker" and is a technology practice leader
(wtf?) at a West Coast regional audit firm. So suck on that.

(I fitted a [redickted] in another [redickted].)

Dang, I'm too late.  :(

CEE TEE says, "Marv caught my ear because I realized my path was probably going to follow his.  All of the gear in his signature a couple of years ago made sense to me because of my own desires and analysis but were also a bit in the possible future.  The <supremely intelligent> me would step out of audio for 3-5 years and wait for Marv & technology to leap ahead.  I would lose years of good sound but save some duckets.  The <actual> me thinks I am saving money by trying to hang back and enjoy what is <pretty great sound> while I stay on this fun and crazy train.  Bottom line?  Marv is highly recommended."
