AKG K340 Frequency Response and CSD Waterfall Plot Measurements

First pair belonged to RD. It was in pristine condition.

The physical condition of the second pair did not look as good as the first one.

A really good concept from AKG in the 70s which didn't quite work out perfectly. I think it should have been pursued further.

I know myself and RD are fans of its potential.  Sadly the coherence issues between the drivers are just unworkable.  I was hoping the K3003 would be the natural progression of that RnD, oh well.

AKG K3400 anyone?

always been curious on these. they look like they measure very well compared to the other older akg models but i'm still curious how each production model measure. like the sextetts and DF's there was multiple production variations(crossover, transformer, passive drivers, ect)

i wonder if upgrading the crossover and so forth might improve them(if there is a way of course)?

Might as well go whole hog...

Active crossover, DSP correction, bi-amped, tear out the tiny little transformer for the electret and use a 'stat amp for them...

I have never heard 2 pairs that sound the same.

They also make anyone complaining of the weight of the LCD-2 seem like a girly man. The K340 are truly awful heavy with terrible weight balancing.

heck ya! now your talking. lets do it! make sure the transformer is made of a high potency of nuclear energy and hooked straight to the reactor's core bi-amped with some huge 12'x12' cables. any less in the gauge size and your just being a panzie. ya know how we roll!

I've got a stock pair of these with green dynamic driver housing. I can't seem to detect the coherence issues between the electret and dynamic drivers so I am slightly worried for myself.

The mids (or vocals) can seem a bit recessed and blurry which is annoying, but bass seems surprisingly fast enough.

Only driving them off my Apex Glacier though. I hope that is enough power since I don't think I have anything better than that.

Liked this AKG very much when heard it first time from vintage Hitachi HMA amp.. But after I bought them, found it was less than satisfactory amped by modern equipment. Ringing and edgy sound everywhere. Looking at those graphs, its no wonder..
Still, pretty nice sound from my Pioneer A-0012 as well, but not that impressive as first time. But I just like exotic stuff like this anyway =)
