Still debating whether to go with an Intel 730 Series or the Kingston M.2 for my build. My friend gets ridiculously good speed, consistency, reliability, etc from his 730.

Looks like Samsung is going to be putting M.2 (pci-e based) SSD drives into the mainstream.  These things are quick.

That's what I've been waiting for!

I have a Macbook Pro at work that boots to login screen in literally two seconds. It has that bonkers Apple SSD. More speed can't hurt but that new laptop was the first time I went "Oh. That's what it can do." Throwing the whole OS into RAM before you can look away is a great trick and means you can shut down your machine and thus save battery without any real penalty.

Whoa! That looks really fast, and I thought my SSD was fast! Are they hard to install as a boot drive since they're in the PCI-E slot?

From my understanding your motherboard has to be NVMe compatible to use m.2.  I believe for most motherboards this was a bios update but it really started to be added mainstream in the z97 series of intel motherboards.

It is natively supported on all 170 series motherboards if it has the slot.
