Post Your Computer Build
« on: September 21, 2015, 11:44:45 PM »

Figured I would start this thread as I have been building PCs as a hobby for most of my life.  Whether you are a beginner or veteran to me cable management is the most important thing when doing a build.  It makes things cooler and it looks much better.  Anyway onto the build.  Pictures are most welcome.

Case: Rosewill Thor
CPU: Intel i7 4790k
Graphics Card: EVGA Superclocked GTX 780
RAM: 32 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600 w/ great timings
PSU: Can't remember, but it's excessive and 80 PLUS Platinum
Cooling: Basic Bitch intel cooler

Peripherals
Keyboard: Ducky Zeros w/ Cherry MX Brown switches
Mouse: Steel Series Sensei RAW
Monitor: Samsung 4k w/ 1ms response time

I've got a rebuild/upgrade that I'm planning out, I'll probably post some pictures when I start that.
I've been considering trashing the Thor and getting a 900D, how's it worked out for you velvetx?

The 900D is a beast.  Honestly there is so much room.  Great cable management.  Great case for water cooling.

I went from an 800D to a 900D to a lian-li Q25 with drive cages removed. It's tiny and was easy to drill out unnecessary internals. The top is just the right size for my custom loop. I no longer run 2 3x120mm radiators anymore so I prefer the smaller form factor quite a bit.

As for internals:

P8Z77-I deluxe
3770k @ 5 GHz on a custom loop
32GB (2x16GB) DDR3
512GB Samsung 830 (3 years still going strong)
580 lighting XE (was running a 980 ti, don't game so I sold it)

I'm using a topre realforce that I traded some older keyboards for and find it fantastic

I had 3 Korean 1440p displays. I sold two recently since one is more than enough for my needs.

In 1986/87, my mom worked at AMD and one of her work buddies came over and showed me how to put together a PC. Years later, he helped me overclock the family 486 DX2/66 I had built. Now I don't have time to futz with computers much, but when I do I make liberal use of heat shrink tubing, my soldering iron, various hole saws with my makita 18V, and a dremel. I abhor windows and flashy LEDs.

Video Card: Asus GTX970 4GB
Your picture shows a Gigabyte Windforce GPU. Typo?

PSU: Can't remember, but it's excessive and 80 PLUS Platinum
Cooling: Basic Bitch intel cooler
This amused me greatly. Platinum PSU paired with a 4790K with a stock cooler.

And I personally think the 900D to be way too much case. I have a Fractal Design Define R5 with air cooling, and it's heavy enough to be cumbersome to move.

As for my own build, the internals are as follows:
Intel i7-5820K @ 4.3 GHz
Asus X99-A
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4x4GB DDR4-2400
Asus Strix GeForce GTX 970
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2
Crucial MX100 256GB and 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB in RAID 1

I use a pair of Dell P2414H 1080p monitors, a Razer Taipan, and a Razer Blackwidow TE Stealth keyboard with O-rings, and Simple Audio Listen speakers.

Just built a budget box for myself:

CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
1 x Rosewill Computer Case - CHALLENGER - ATX Mid Tower
Intel Core i3-4160 Haswell Dual-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 1150 54W BX80646I34160 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4400
ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner
Western Digital WD Green WD10EZRX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache
ASUS H97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Crucial BX100 2.5" 250GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

With my near worthless GT610.

I plan to get a 750ti eventually with a larger storage drive. Everything else I'm pretty happy with for now.

Yah mistype.  Haha I had a Asus 770 then upgraded.

Corsair Obsidian Series 250D (Mini-ITX) - Shoehorned in some huge case fans.
MSI Z87I GAMING AC
i7-4770 - OCed
CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i
Nvidia GTX 780
Couple Samsung 840 Pros
Gskill Ares - 16gb
Modular 80 plus plat psu, can't remember the model.
WASD keyboard
1080p ips monitor

Quiet, cool and fast. I see no reason to upgrade anything.

Here's mine. Haven't bought or assembled anything yet.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=28174065

~$1850

Took out the 2TB RE4 for now since the 480GB variant of the 730 was actually cheaper than the 240GB variant (???) and I won't need that extra storage for a while yet.

Had a Formula VII in there but it went OoS. I think ASUS already discontinued the Z97 series since Skylake is out. Assholes.

Using a 1000W Platinum Seasonic that's in my current build for the PSU. I'd buy a new one so I could resell my current build, but I'd rather not do another 3 RMAs for this fucker.

Debating replacing the 730 with an M.2 drive.

I'll take pictures of my current build in a bit. Its as follows:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.31GHz
GPU: MSi GTX-550Ti Superclocked "Cyclone II"
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Value Series 2600MHz
CPU cooler: Noctua C15
PSU: 1000W Platinum Seasonic
Case: Lian-Li PC-B25F

Monitor: Eizo Foris FS2434 (IPS, 0ms input delay)
Keyboard: DAS 4 Ultimate
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Black Edition
Second monitor: some old eMachines thing
Speakers: PowerWoofer OG-5050 (not too bad sounding, modded with a crossover and piezo horn tweeters)

replacing the second monitor with a Yiynova MSP19U+ soon, keeping the same perhipherals for next build

I had plans for something with more power requirements, and then Rag/Yggy/MisterRoger's Mainline happened. I was going to make a custom water cooling rig, including the graphics card(s). Probably wouldn't have been worth it, but on the bright side that PSU will last forever. It's going to be part of future builds for years.
