A Note on Private Messages
« on: September 19, 2015, 10:45:13 AM »

A note about Private Messages. This has been brought up a few times in PM with me.

Private Messages are just that. Private Messages. The administrators or moderators cannot read, edit, or delete your private messages unless they change your password and log in as you. If that happens, you will know it because the there is no way for anyone to know what your original password was (to change it back to the original) unless they are a skilled hacker (need to get into SQL database and crack the password hash). The only other method would be direct access to the database which requires root access which only I have.

However, keep in mind that I really don't give a crap about what what's in your PMs or what you think about me or whatever. Changstar is not a police state like Head-Fi (where they will change your password, probably to read your PMs). I have said this before: At a certain point in your life, you learn not to be so curious about what other people think. Even if you can snoop, you simply don't bother, because you have reached a certain level of maturity. Reading other peoples' PMs is like secretly reading someone else's diary, listening in on their phone conversations, or reading their e-mails. No good ever comes from it.

My grandmother used to secretly listen in to my mother's phone conversations (during the days when all we had were land lines). All this did was create an enormous, an enormous amount of bad karma.

This stance will be carried forward to the new site.

They are called 'private' for a reason, right?  :)p7

Does HF read PMs? That would be not right!

So there are stalkers at HF then. I guess they are more concerned with 'interesting' members...  walk the plank2
