Going to start measuring IEMs
« on: September 17, 2015, 12:16:12 AM »

Hey guys, got a Veritas from Vibro Labs and I'm planning on measuring some IEMs in the upcoming future. I have Arta but I need a capture card as I doubt onboard is going to do, definitely a budget option, was looking at the Scarlet stuff. Also any relevant tips would be appreciated.

I'll send you my Asus soundcard that's a decent performer. Just pay the shipping.

Do you have a microphone jack? The errors in linear and non-linear distortion for transducers are a magnitude or two or three greater than those of built-in microphone jacks. This is another option in case you are working with a laptop: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F7120TQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage&linkCode=sl1&tag=yoac34bianbo3-20&linkId=0c074943b7d19f4af47387c20dfd60db

Thanks for the offer oj, I'll shoot you a message at some point today after class.

Marvey, looks like I'm handled on the capture device, do you have any advice for consistency in measuring iems or any advice in measuring in general? I'd ideally like to build a database like Tyll, but for iems so people can use it as a comparison point.

would love to hear how your experience goes! this is something I am also interested in pursuing :)

edit: also read that the veritas seems to be pretty consistent across the board of users trying it out.

I think they should ship external soundcard with it to keep it consistent.

That would introduce a bunch of other complaints, we know that's true.

Edit: He does have a cheap USB driven sound card that he can recommends with it.

While we're in the topic, I have a question. Would pyrates who do iem measurements please explain more about why iem measurements over 10khz are unreliable? It's seems like something useful and interesting to know, thanks.

I had not known that they were unreliable over 10k but that makes so much sense now
