Wondering if they broke into it expecting to find the new marble version, but took this instead when the other wasn't found.

That's horrible and a huge loss for folks visiting future CES or various shows where Senn would bring it.

That being said, why is HF the public repository for "Welp! My shit has been ripped off"? It kind of gets old after a while.

Were any other trailers broken into, or was Sennheiser specifically targeted?

I bet they were specifically targeted. Companies and individuals need to be careful about Internet social media. There are obvious immense upsides, but also downsides. I work in content security in the movie business. Internet social media scares us. Criminals use information from social media to development friendships and develop insider tracks to conduct criminal activity once inside. Most often, it's stupidity on the part of individuals: "Hey! Ain't I cool! I'm working on the VFX for the new Star Wars movie!" (Instagram of Mark Hamill in costume on monitor behind the person posting).

I think they were targeted by professional thieves, by someone who wanted to acquire some equipment what is not possible to get otherwise. I think it will not come out, it will travel to some  poo hole audiophile home and will be never seen in public again. Great loss for fans, because i do not think Sennheiser have more of them to put on the show.

Stolen to order? Like art works that could never be sold on open market. Sounds quite likely.

why is HF the public repository for "Welp! My shit has been ripped off"? It kind of gets old after a while.

It has a huge audience, I suppose.

Similarly, studio rip offs get featured on gearslutz. It gets the audience of people who might be offered that sort of stuff.

90% of those heists are insider jobs. I am sure those guys behind robbing Audeze also knew somebody there.
 :boom:

I had the chance to listen to the Orpheus twice now  - but prefer to listen to things that are are alive and still available.

So what was then?
The only thing comparable at the time was the Stax SR-Omega

Good Riddance I dare say. Shame on Sennheiser for having to show off that old pile of crap   over and over again.
And it ain't as Sennheiser claims "Ze best headphone in ze world". Probably never was!

Sorry to say but the Orpheus was a phenomenal headphone (+amp) at the day and still is quite sweet sounding even today. Had the chance of listening to Dr. Burkhardt Schwabe's pair (one of the original designers) against one of his amps paired with the HD800  and while the old Orpheus did not present the ultimate detail retrieval it was amazing on voices and piano. I would pick it over pretty much everything made these days for jazz and acoustic music (would prefer 800 for big scale classic). Of course price is inflated due to limited run, this does not mean it is not one of the greatest ever.

Pity it was stolen..

You might want to check your post, and edit the quote, which is not mine, so as to attribute it to the right person
