BIMBY ... What are the chances of it happening?!
« on: August 26, 2015, 11:09:26 PM »

Being a Bifrost owner and reading a lot about GUMBY I will be very interested if the MultiBit upgrade comes out for it. I know that Mr.Moffat eluded to it but is it realistic?

I am thinking that with the smaller form factor challenges and the cost they would have to charge for it may not be viable for Schiit to deliver this ...

What do you guys think!  ahoy

Currently, in ascending order of price (and performance), it's
Bifrost -> Gungnir -> Gumby -> Yggy

Yes, reDACted^2 has been eluded many times and it's quite likely that multibit tech will eventually trickle down to Bifrost, rendering merv's earlier April Fool's joke no longer a joke. However, there might be a dilemma: what will become of non-MB Gungnir then?

With the multibit upgrade, Bimby would be priced between non-MB Bifrost and Gumby, probably somewhere around non-MB Gungnir. But it is also likely that Bimby would outperform non-MB Gungnir in sound quality, as evidenced by the DAC Chart of Awesomeness. The only advantage a non-MB Gungnir would have over a Bimby is that it is balanced--which may not be a significant factor when it is still edged out in SQ--and the fact that it is upgradable to Gumby. That being said, Schiit may discontinue non-MB Gungnir altogether and only offer it in MB should Bimby become available.

Just my guess.

Mike Moffat is a man of his word. If he envisions something, he will surely deliver. That being said, there has been several mentions of a prototype lying around that some pirates got to listen to. Well, unless we're getting trolled hard  walk the plank2

If there were a prototype, I wouldn't be surprised by how many.

I made up that April fool's joke in a vacuum. I have zero insight into Schiit's product roadmap and I'd like to keep it that way :)

In any case, I've learned to stop speculating about unannounced product launches. I'd buy the DAC I wanted that was out today and enjoy it until some theoretical future launch happened.

OH YEAH! I forgot about that. iOS only and if you plug it into an Android device or traditional computer, a modal is generated telling you to buy a better device.
