ART Tube Mic Pre
« on: August 06, 2015, 11:42:01 PM »

Not a piece of playback gear this time, but rather a mic preamp. I was looking around on Amazon and this thing looks to be about the cheapest standalone mic pre you can find. And it has a tube in it!  p:0

Right now I'm using it with an AKG C3000B. I figure it'll be cool to record some vocal snippits. Eventually will tear it apart for science.

Yes, I'm not hearing any overt problems (No hum, hiss, clipping, nasties, etc.) either using the 48V phantom power + standard 9VAC wallwart. So that in itself is an achievement.

I was once considering this as a tube preamp to try out after my DAC but before my headphone amp. Would it work? I just want to try out tubes for cheap.

I wouldn't bother TBH. Plus the gain structure would be weird

Guitar Centre in the US has a bunch of these listed for $20.

Do you think there may be an acoustic leak from the jack hole? ~Tyll Hertsens

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

I don't even have a specific need for one but I'm tempted to pick one up anyways... except I'm not in the US and I would spend more on shipping than I would the product :p
