UPS - drops package on door and leaves. Doesn't even ring bell. Doesn't leave package behind a convenient wall right next to door.

Same here. On several occasions I've had tower speakers just sitting by the garage door, even when I was home at the time of delivery. Never a peep from them. My favorite is when somebody ships UPS signature required, and the driver doesn't feel like ringing the bell and waiting, so they'll just walk up, leave a "sorry we missed you" note on the door, and leave.

Guess it boils down to the individual delivery drivers servicing your area.  My experiences with UPS have been consistently positive.  With FedEx, by contrast, I seem to get unexplained delays, strange routing/backtracking and have witnessed occasional indelicate handling.  Our local USPS is at the absolute bottom of the heap.  Lost packages, multiple notes left on our mailbox stating they couldn't complete deliveries when we were actually at home at the time (the PO admitted that some carriers do this as a way of avoiding coming up the driveway when they are running behind) and the above-mentioned package tossed into my bushes.  Between that and the prolific junk mail, I am starting to lean towards the close down USPS camp.

So you're ok with UPS charging you $8 to mail a letter then?
