League of Legends
« on: July 29, 2015, 06:16:53 PM »

Does anyone here play? I'm Bronze 1 going into Silver right now, 2 games into my series with 2 wins. I generally prefer top lane as Nasus or Malphite, but can play support and jungle decently well. ADC/Mid I'm okay at but nothing to be impressed by. Anyone else here play much?

Nope, I'm afraid to open that can of worms.

I was HUGE into Age of Empires, and even played SCII for a bit.  They're huge time drains if you want to be good, and with a kid, RTS games have become far more difficult.  I'm using Clash of Clans to satisfy that particular longing.

League is actually a MOBA, like DotA. It's an easy game to pick up, each game only lasts 20-60 minutes, but there's definitely a time investment to learn it. I'm JUST getting decent after 100 or so games this year.

Yeah, and I'm not happy in these types of games unless I'm competitive.  I remember some looooong nights of playing back in the day.

But then again, I do have this gaming keyboard/mouse that is currently relegated to nothing more than typing emails and replying to some forum posts.  :P

Yeah I'm the same way haha. I only play ranked games now, but it takes a good amount of time invested before you can reasonably play ranked. Now that I'm ranked ready, have runes/heroes/knowledge for each role, I only play 2-3 games a day. It's getting there that's a time investment though.

I'll hopefully get silver tonight, only 1 more win in the series. Then I'll try to hit gold!

I'm not proud to admit that I've played since Beta after switching over from DOTA. It's absorbed way too much out of my life in high school and college. Definitely want those hours back.

Don't play as much now since I'm getting old and it takes too much out of me to continue grinding ranked matches.

Used to. Had to stop for a few months due to school. Came back and all the items were changed. I loathed learning and mastering the game the first time around, so to walk into a new shop...fuck that. Then with all the continuous tweaks the break things all the time (the game never felt balanced to me whatsoever) and the constant new champs that are OP out of the gate, no thanks.

I'd rather play games for simpletons. I'd get back into LoL if they made it balanced, stopped tweaking it, and stopped releasing champs. Could learn it, master it, and that would be good. Having to constantly keep up with all the new crap? No.

I hear ya, I have sunk a decent amount of time into it this season so far, over 100 matches which at a conservative 30 minutes a match is 3,000 minutes, or 50 hours. I did just hit silver though and seem to have found my groove going 15-5 in my last 20 games!

Honestly I feel it's a somewhat balanced game. If you play draft mode then there's really no reason as to why the two teams shouldn't be evenly matched. I haven't played since S3 and despite a lot of changes it was pretty easy and fun to jump back into.

As for constant new stuff, they release one hero at a time, which I think is easy to manage and if you play somewhat regularly (once a week) then the new stuff isn't so intimidating. Like I said I came back after 2 seasons and it took a few games to adjust, but I'm back in the swing and doing better than ever. I actually really like the additions and changes that they have made, especially for junglers.

Funny thing is, though, that the most played heroes that I see are ones that have been out since S3. Nasus, Malphite, Kayle, Darius, Fizz and etc are all still strong and Vayne is still arguably the best ADC in the game.

Gold 3 here.

I wouldn't still be playing this game if I didn't have a bunch of pals to mess around in normals with. Definitely a game that takes a huge time investment to enjoy and really unfriendly to new players; would only recommend to players who really want to get better by grinding out hundreds of games.
