rubber talk
« on: June 17, 2013, 12:06:35 AM »

Any recommendations on good rubber? Using used rubber is sorta gross even on an old machine like mine..err yes we are talking about the kind that goes on cars haha

Looking for an all season touring or grand touring tire. 205/70/15 for my legacy outback.

Don't want to spend more than 450-475 mounted for a set.

Wish I could help, but I'm an ultra/max performance rubber guy.

Might want to look at the traction/treadwear/temperature/speed and load ratings also.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code

Check out the surveys and comparison ratings on Tirerack.  I also look at tire weight for performance and fuel economy.  A couple pounds saved on the tire can do more than spending thousands on new 2-piece rotors.

aye.. i just don't have need for high performance when my car's a wagon with o turbo on it haha.

Went with the Hankook Optimo 727. The Altimax RT rates better in wet weather by a larger margin, but i got a deal on the H727 and don't plan on doing much spirited driving. Plan on driving my 96 outback till it falls apart.  Damn thing's got 170k miles on it. Put 20k miles in the last 11 months. Another 50-60k miles out of this car and i'll be plenty happy.

If this helps, I got the Conti DWS on my '00 leggy GT. Such a good tire, especially in the snow for an A/S tire. Quiet, comfortable, grippy, predictable, and fairly affordable. A little numb in steering feel, but other than that, I can conclude it being a great tire. For a more affordable tire, you can't go wrong with the Hankooks. I guess AWD helps as well
