Help! New measurement rig (ARTA)
« on: July 17, 2015, 07:19:36 AM »

Guys, I need some help with my measurement rig. Using a Focusrite and Dayton emm-6 mic with full version of ARTA. Using a pillow as coupler.

I get these funky impulse responses.

Which produce measurements like this:

When I set the cursor using the front portion of the impulse, the bass seems mildly scooped out:

What am I doing wrong?

Okay found out it doesn't like amp output so I need to use the line out on the ADC. Seems like I should not use the cursor.

Got this measurement after fixing those things:

The resonances were not ideal when I tried myself but I have fairly decent results with a disc coupler with foam on top which I mass loaded with blu tac. Could you try that? I doubt a pillow would be ideal as well given the number of impulse reflections within the short time frame.

You want to use open cell foam like Marv and I do. Pillow is too acoustically reflective; you basically want something that will just hold the headphone in place.

If you have any speakers do some free field measurements to establish a base line. Or take a free field measurement of your headphone (not coupled to the any surface). Right now things look weird. Unless that's how your Hifimen actually sound, which would be surprising to me.
