Something without grain throughout the response range, no treble glare, harshness or digital bite out of every damned phone you plug into it regardless of source.  That would be a nice start.  That's 'typical' solid state coloration IME and I don't like it.  Most SS that tries to mitigate that seem to be more dark or colored to compensate thus hindering top end extension.  We can work on resolving power later once that gets dealt with.  Currently I'm on a quest to hear the best SS I can find at every meet to make sure I give SS every consideration possible that I might hear something equal to or better than the best tube setups I've heard.

Have you tried sticking your head up Kevin Gilmore's bum?  Seems to make SS sound a lot better for some people.   ;)

The Objective2 isn't good enough?   ;)

I would prefer a regular CMOY but a high voltage (30-36 rail-to-rail) power supply. Just as low output Z, less stages than O2. A much simplier design for the task since IEMs don't need much power.

I will be trying to see if it fits next time I get a chance.

Less Z out actually.  100% feedback and no load balancing resistor.  Since they won't need any gain a single stage would be just fine.  I don't know if going from .5 to .05 or lower would sound any better with most IEMs but it sure wouldn't hurt.

probably from over use of negative feedback with the solid-state designs. lot of people use excessive amounts of global feedback to give better ''objective'' measurement specs, but usually don't end up sounding no where near as good as it measures. well, that's what i learned so far reading up online and Dr Matti Otala papers lately on amplifier designs. think same fundamentals would apply for headamps i would guess. good tube or solid-state design should have no sound of it's own.

I think people are so used to what I call the "glare" from OPAMPs + negative feedback that a heavily power-regulated, no-feedback design does sound "dark" in comparison.
