SMPS straight for the trash can, 5A linear connected on the Pi2! Huge improvement in sound for the small hifiberry+. Now I need a fancy case..

As for the software, I spoke with Tim (TCMods) and he is about to solve the single USB HDD issue and add CUE support.

For those interested in the purest, lowest OS on resources may I suggest the Archphile OS which was just released for the Pi2?

http://archphile.org/

It necessitates a few "adjustments" through Putty but will reward you with the cleanest possible sound.

Thanks again for all the info.

I tested Volumio yesterday, it's quite cool indeed! Only problem is it doesn't play ball with the Offramp 4. It probably needs the M2tech drivers.
Will look into it.

Michael, the guy behind Archphile just told me that he is working on a solution for SACD ISO files for his OS. This would be the first linux MPD capable of decoding .iso. I will be doing some beta when he sends me the file and report back.

Small update for those interested.

Archphile now supports SACD .iso perfectly. As far as I know the only distro that does so. (you will have to enable the feature by using a bit of console, nothing difficult)

Both MoOde (former TCMODS) and Archphile now support more than 1 HDD connected at the same time.

I need to trY LPS for it. RPi with the Soekris dac I struggle to hear a difference in sound vs mu PC. Lesser dacs do show differences though, like cleaner, blacker background.

The LPS helped a lot since it provided cleaner power for the hifiberry dac, not sure how much it helps for the Rpi itself. Still I prefer linear for everything...

Check audiowind seller on eBay, he has some cheap and decent ones.

I meant the RPi didn't do much to the Soekris dac.
The dac itself is powered by decent power.
Will revisit RPi when I install Reflektor-Ds in the dac/i2s board and add LPS for Pi.

It is probable that the i2s board being calvanically isolated is more or less immune to source.

A galvanically isolated receiver with FIFO buffering and reclocking is almost completely immune to what precedes it. If this is the case I doubt you would hear real differences between the SMPS and a LPS for the Rpi.

The LPS i am using would set you back less than $50 (including the 50VA toroid and the chinese board) which is not that much and provides peace of mind.
