As for paint, I'll play around with color schemes and post a few images tomorrow. I was intending on painting the bars. Perhaps some sandpaper will help. I'm really tired right now, just sneaking in a couple songs before bed and checking all my forums...

The grills are removable but are glued in and the red bands are actually just red heatshrink on steel bands.  You can just strip and reshrink the bands pretty easily.  The grills, you should be able to take to any local powdercoater for a few bucks.

Glued? I thought they were clamped in with that black square ring.

I don't think I HAVE a local paint booth/auto body/whatever... I'll ask around.

From memory they are held by the rectangle frame and two screws and some light glue?  Try looking up powder coating shops in your area; they usually specialize in powder coating rather than paint and charge based on size/weight so it should be affordable.

My taste is simple and monochrome, so either 4 or 6; 4 is easiest on the eyes.

I like 4 as well.

Waiting on word back from Colorware and AKG. Custom Cans dropped communication with me a while back about a headphone I was gonna send in for painting so I don't think I'm gonna bother with them.

Unfortunately, the seller used UPS to ship the K1000 so it won't be here until next week Thursday. Looks like I have time to make that model after all. I'm getting a new(ish) computer in the mail next week as well so I'll have enough to keep me occupied.

If I end up being unable to salvage the driver and do go with a transplant and custom colorscheme, I'm going to change the logo on the cans as well. I plan on 3D printing a pair of small embossed logo badges in metal, spraying them black, and brushing/sanding the embossed letters. Sort of like what Sony did with the MDR-Z7 (and most of their other gear for that matter).

Black and orange (1) is a stunner. The all gray-black ones are not bad but more conventional.

Still no response from AKG or Colorware (yeah no, they won't do it). I'll give AKG another day or so since I sent the message on the weekend.

Also, eBay was being stupid. The headphone will be here tomorrow.
