I think apple and other pc manufacturers took different paths in building the laptops, and I personally like apple's approach better.
I simply couldn't stand the flimsy lid for most ultrabooks because aluminum is more rigid in this occasion.
No, I am far far away from apple fanboys, I don't have any iPhone evar.

Nah, I read your post, you shouldn't assume otherwise, we're not children here with next to no attention span.  Even dropping the fanboy bomb while adding a smiley after it, classic.

Well your post makes absolutely no sense in the context of what I wrote. How do explain dismissing a test which actually saves lives in critical life situations and would have prevented lots of hardship and economic loss to how many Apple users? Millions perhaps have had broken screens on various devices over the years?

None you have a response to Thinkpads withstanding combat and space or how devices survive the thermal challenges of the Arabian desert without being made of magic aluminum. You can like Apple's approach but don't bullshit me saying Apple leads the way in laptop development. BS!!  poo

Haters can mock Apple products and their users all they want, but the reality is that they will sell these as fast as they can make them, will never have to discount them, and will continue to make all the profit in the laptop space.  The experience of self-proclaimed power users doesn't scale, and their preferences are not widely shared.

That said, I'm not in. I don't see this as a step up from my current MBA.

100% agreed.

I don't think Apple's marketing their macbooks towards combat environments.  Hell, I doubt most of the programs used on the battlefields and around military bases even run on OSX.  For college students and people who use a laptop for transportable use for meetings and/or work away from their main rigs (like me), the worst the laptop has to face is a potential drop from desk height.

When Tim Cook said he'd been waiting since he was 5 to be able to make phone calls with his watch, and they panned across the audience to show people agreeing and laughing, I stopped watching.

The watch is in a different league than anything Apple has done before, and it shows outright contempt for their customers. Why does the $17,000 Apple Watch exist? What's the difference between it and one of those Vertu phones? If you buy that watch, you're too stupid to be allowed to live.

Right. Isn't that all exactly what I said in my posts? None of that adds up to 'leading the way' in laptop dev for me.

Btw, I'm pretty sure none of those trashed Macbooks occurred in a combat environment. Just food for thought about the benefits of over-engineering.

Is it really $17k? I missed the pricing info. I'm not interested in a watch anyway.
